OS Daily Thread - Friday 10th October

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Friday 10th October . It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning darlings!
Happy Birthday SarahShattered!!
I have actually been up an hour now - not from my OH coming home, but in order to keep my friend company online. My very best friend is an American and unfortunately has cancer so doesn't have long to live. Due to the time differences, it's easier to either stay up late or get up really early to talk to him. He loves my british accent still, so I go on mic and talk rubbish at him to make him laugh. He even gets me to sing to him as he used to love coming to my gigs. Anyway, they have taken him off to have some tests done so while I am here alone I thought I would start the thread before he gets back.
We still have the hire car as the local motability garage is taking an inordinantly long time to fix the car. They have given us a Zafira but want to swap it for a Corsa. My OH has explained that there is no way I will be able to get into a Corsa so hopefully we will be able to keep the Zafira til the Touran is back. But the reply from Motability made me laugh - 'Don't you have friends who can give you lifts, or couldn't you order taxis while they fix your car?' Ummm NO actually!
And the plumber is finally coming tomorrow morning to look at the pump so my poor OH doesn't have to spend 10 mins after his shower, mopping and squeegeeing the water off the bathroom floor. I am afraid I got very 'Margot Ledbetter' on the plumbers ansafone but it has obviously worked!
I posted late yesterday so I don't have anything to reply to today except to say that like all of us I don't understand the Martin bashing that is going on on the money boards. All Martin does is offer advice, he doesn't force anyone to do anything and if they have more than £35,000 to invest, then they should be bloody grateful! I don't suppose I will ever have that kind of money in my life! Not even sure my flat is worth that much.
Anyway, big
to everyone who needs them and congratulations to anyone celebrating anything today!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning Diva and all who follow!
I woke at 5 and decided to get up and make tea. Going to the hospital today to see my nurse, as I have numb toes on each foot.
Diva, I'm going to look at a motability car at the weekend. Can't decide if I want a Fiesta, a Focus or a Mercedes class A!:rotfl: My little Clio is sitting in my garage with no windscreen at the moment:eek: I went to get the windsceen replaced because it had a crack, and when they took it out there was no sill left to put a new one in:eek: So I have decided that Motability is the way to go. OH is relieved, he was always moaning about my car:rotfl:
Haven't decided what to have for dinner tonight, chicken maybe?
Anyway, have a good day all!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Hola from windy Spain
Storm still with us - no rain tm though and 22 degrees at 6 am when I woke up. What with the wind noise and the snoring decided to have some me time on here.
Hilstep - be careful if it is a A140 - we hired one out here a couple of years ago, it was underpowered and not comfortable, they tried to "upgrade" us to one the next trip - NO WAY was the answer.
Smokybabe - the word is lived in, not untidy.
Had a good night last night, our new next door neighbours here asked if they could come along with us again, they are Dutch, but their English is brilliant, the guy in the bar/restaurant plays popular song from 60/70/90's - they knew nearly all the words, and could tell us who made the songs orginally most of the time. They are a good laugh and it was fun.
Today I need to decide what to do for tea, just having fruit at lunch time so that is no worry. It was a Fiesta Day here yesterday and the shops were shut so will probably be heaving today.
:grouphug: everyone who'd like one :grouphug:
 newbies
:hello: All the regulars
Take care - DG

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning.
Pretty sunny and dry here today, or it's supposed to be. I should be day off, but I have to go to court for another one of my cases. I get a day back, so can pick and chose when I want that.
Thanks for the comments on the court case. It is frustrating as our system is heavily biased towards the suspect/offender/defendant. The jury rarely get to hear all the evidence or information as it would predujice them in favour of a guilty verdict. But those on the other side would say information not relating to the specific charge would be overly biased and take the focus away from the facts of the case. Anyway....
Nothing much new going on. OH is getting a bit fed up as there have been no supply teaching jobs at all. She is getting bored and wondering if it's time to think about something else. Pity She would be a great teacher....
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
morning everyone
(((hugs))) to all that need
really windy here ( i love it when its windy) so as I am off today will go for a walk providing it doesnt rain
need to go to aldi and mr T and want to spend as little as possible, not good at that yet i always spend more than I plan to even though I stick to a list and meal plan.
talked to my manager yesterday as I felt things at work were not fair. I work in a 2 site GP practice and at the other site they are allowed to do flu clinics in surgery time and I have to do them in my own time as the manager had said it was too busy to do it when there was a normal surgery running . anyhow I spoke to her and she agreed it was unfair but as the clinics were already booked there was nothing that could be done this year. except she said I could have double pay for any O/T i worked:j :j woohoo
hope everyone has a great day xx0 -
Morning all, Brain went into overdrive at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep, I have to get started on the study, another makeover. I wil collect some boxes from freecycle later and make a start on packing books, pics etc.
Been dreading tackling this room as there's so much to move. I'll have to get handyman in to help move furniture as DH is not able to do much, only coz I won't let him.
Off for another coffee, put the BM on and catch up, y/days thread is soooo long.0 -
Good morning everyone.
MSD - (((hugs))) to your friend in America; you must bring him great comfort with your calls.
Hilstep - (((hugs))) to you, too.
Sistercas - at least the double pay is something of a result.
I haven't read the rest of yesterday's thread; I shall do that in a minute.
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Pippa's DH and Mum, Candygirls Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Beth and her family, Meanmarie and OH, RedRuby's Mum and all who need one.
Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:
DH's job has finished and he has a couple of days off until the next one. He has some quotes to do, though, so will be in and out of the house all day. I'm going to spend a few days with my Mum the week after next so I shall have to pre-print some invoices and payslips for him to fill in by hand - he won't have a clue how to find them on the PC and I don't want him to try! I'm trying to anticipate what he'll need before I go! I'm not even sure if he knows how to put the PC on so I shall try and find the patience to show him this weekend! I shall also bulk bake some bread and double up on meals this week so that he can feed himself. He can do basic cooking like bacon and eggs but nothing more adventurous than that! Heaven knows what I'll come home to!
Anyway, the weather forecast is for another good day so I shall change the sheets today and have a good clean up through the house.
Donny-gal - I hope the weather improves for you.
Well, I'm going to put the kettle on again so I'll see you all later.
