    Did my first refund today,

got 2 whole legs of lamb SEL price £4.99 per kilo, price on label £5.99 per kilo, so got over £28 back

Also healthy living mini chicken fillets 400g price on packet £2.97, price on SEL £2.38. Got 3 packs, so got nearly £40 back.

This is great, so pleased I found this little loop hole!

    2. On many occasions, I couldn't find any SELs. I think this might be Tesco is unable to update their til system, so that they just takes the SEL off to avoid any R&R. If this is the case, then I'm still being overcharged, aren't I? is there anything I can do?

no SEL and no price on the item, how can they possibly overcharge you??
obviously, you want the item and have some idea of its value or you wouldn't buy the unpriced item. this is an instance where you ASK for the price, or don't purchase it. it probably is tescos protecting themselves and who can blame them?

sorry, I didn'y express my question clear. My question is, say for example, SEL stated 9.99/kg for grapes but scans at 10.99/kg and someone can get a R&R if they spot the mistake. However, next guy buying grapes is still being overcharged if CS just takes the SEL off instead of changing the til system. This doesn't sound right, does it?

My point is, I don't look for misprice items when I shop. What I do is I make a list of SEL price on everything I buy and compare it with the receipt price, and there're no SELs for me to check the price sometimes. On several occasions, the items without SEL price turned out to be more expansive than the price on Tesco internet.

Got a R&R on some Value Lamb Chops today. The friendly CSA at my local who is always nice and cheery was helping the newish CSA doing my refund and I overheard her saying something about there being a "new way of doing this now" and I was asked for my Clubcard

Didn't see that I could refuse this as it is actually the property of Tesco. Are they keeping tabs on all refunds now? Call me paranoid

i wonder if they are starting to deduct the points off your card. I got the camcorder last week, plus 228 points and when i got the refund i kept the points.

Could live with losing the points, hope that's all it is!
  • No, its a sneeky way of getting your name and address!!! Just tell them you dont know why they need it to conduct the refund, and ask to see "policy" that says you must show it

No I think she means the new system they have for recording the refunds on their system with barcode and a reason code. Much more efficient than writing it down on tiny receipts. Which is good for customers as a whole, assuming they actually do something about the reports they get..

Actually no....as i have explained several times before, the price you are charged at the till is the CORRECT price as set on the central system. HOWEVER, it IS incorrect when compared to the SEL that is displayed. By removing the SEL and (hopefully) replacing it with the correct one, the store is doing what should have been done in the first place which is displaying the correct price (as set by Head office). The prices are not determined at a store level and unless there is a very good reason, they will not be overridden instore.

Therefore, the next guy is not being overcharged but charged the correct price as per pricing system.

And no, there really is no excuse for overcharges of this nature nor am i trying to make any.

The reports that we get are analysed at scrutinised at all levels in our store. The price integrity team check the price errors, the cs team check the double scans and so on....

Do you know anything about a new procedure for refunds requiring the customer to hand over their Clubcard though?

Apart from faulty electrical returns - I've had that in the past, they just used it to get my name and address which other stores ask for with those kind of returns anyway.
