So if an old SEL states 50p but the product scans at 52p then Tesco are overcharging b******s. Of course the same product may be 55p in Asda, 60p in Sainsbury's and 70p in Waitrose but they're all lovely people :rotfl:
    Can I help?
  • For anyone who's interested (and this includes Mr T's staff as they clearly need to be aware of this), the following link is to a PDF of the Price Marking Order 2004

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2004/20040102.htm

Here's a copy of the Code of Practice for Traders on Price Indications

    http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/guide/pricecodetraders0905.pdf

Page 17 covers displaying two prices.

I'm really not at all sure of your intention in this post.

Yes, Mr T would be overcharging - it is irrelevant what you might be able to buy the same thing at in any other store.

See previous post for the Price Marking Order.

My point was what you class as irrelevent (Tesco prices versus other shops) may actually be quite fundamental to the moral issue here. Sorry if it was a bit obscure.

If by morral issue you refer to people looking for mis-prices, I am not at all sure that it is immorral to do this. Certainly no more so than it is for Mr Ts to overcharge their customers in the first place.

In recent discussions with two stores local to me I had the the pre-packed meat section manager tell me that he had been aware of a label on the Legs of Lamb having stated £4.99 per KG against a product price of £5.99 per KG for "some time".

In another store, having taken down a poster that advised all customers that the top 15 XBOX games were under £29.97 when that clearly wasn't the case, the manager agreed that the poster was misleading yet refused to accept that I had been overcharged.

Having done quite some investigation into the law today (and posted some links to DTI documents on here that will be very useful to people), I am convinced that these two stores have committed offences. I am also convinced that it's totally immoral for them to display prices that suggest to people that the price they will be charged is actually lower than the price that they are actually charged. The fact is that most people, when stacking their trolley, dealing with the children, etc simply will not notice. What's worse is that many may not have selected the item if it didn't have a special offer or the price indication suggested a higher price. These people are being overcharged on a very regular basis and simply trust Tesco to get it right. We all know that it's very rare that they get it right and we take advantage of the policy to get the item for nothing.

It might be immoral if we were doing to old Mr Arkwright in the corner shop, but this is a multi-billion pound company taking the P**S and I see no reason not to take the P**S back.

Hope I haven't missed your point again.

So two wrongs make a right!! Nice thinking.....

Mr Arkwright in his corner shop wouldnt OFFER you your money back and the product free so I'm pretty sure that you wouldnt even bother looking.

Hokers, I see where you are coming from and i'll try to explain what i mean.....

Every item has a price set centrally, however, variable weight products (some meat, poultry & cheese) come in pre priced and any price changes that occur have no effect on these pre-priced products as the system does not know the individual barcode of each one (each product having a unique code). Other items that are not variable weight however have one barcode (some having a couple of variants ) and therefore the price at till is the one that reflects the central system.

I've been onto HO about the X Box games and they have refused at the moment but I am still trying.
For information, the 3 games concerned are all on the Tesco website for £29.97

Rang up HO about my problem 8.55am. The person dealing with this starts at 9am and will ring you back. No phone call.

4.45pm, Ring HO. Person dealing with this has left for the evening. They are still trying to come to a resolution and will contact you tomorrow.

    edit

I don't consider that there are two wrongs here. What Mr T is doing is illegal - FACT. It could also be considered to be quite immoral. What I and many others are doing is taking advantage of a policy that is intended to give it a competitive advantage over its rivals. Now, continually being overcharged by buying products that are likely to be incorrectly priced might be considered to be immoral by some and you're all entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that, unless people like me and others on here do something about it, innocent shoppers will continue to be overcharged way into the future. Our options are to:

    1) Alert Trading Standards, in which case, Tesco might get a slap on the wrists and a fine that is meaningless in the grand scheme of things
    2) Take advantage of an adequately publicised policy, fill our boots and, in most cases, stop the same thing from happening in the same store for the same product again.

I know which option I prefer.

With regard to Mr Arkwright, I agree with your point. My point, though, is that he is likely to be an awful lot more dilligent in the first place so as not to allow it to happen. He might have a lot less of a selection and he certainly has less staff but he has a keen interest in getting things right. His reputation is vital to him and it might not take very long to get a bad one. In the case of Tesco, getting a bad reputation amongst the majority of its customers would take a very long time, even with the help of the Internet.

    Dudes,

Never thought it would happen but I failed with an R&R.....

Spotted Kelly Clarkson album (No 10 in chart) with SEL of £5.97 - seemed cheap - scanned at £9.77ish.

Went to CS - nice lady came along - looked at SEL - told me that I would be getting a R&R, then asked me to go back to CS as she "had to check something".

    So I bimbled back.

Paranoid mode on - a few minutes later the Security Dude left his monitoring station and went firing off in the general direction of the CDs - Paranoid mode off.

Anyhow, CS lady eventually comes back with SEL and points out that it has the album title of 'Thankful' not 'Breakaway'.

I was stunned 'cause I hadn't noticed this - 'Duh! Okay Fred!'

So I took a refund - and no CD.

    Didn't argue.

    So I've failed with a R&R............

    Duder

PS I've had a bummer of a day at work - didn't want the stress of a row - but should I have stood my ground..........? Did I even have any ground to stand on?
