help ive hit a problem! i got the goodmans tv last week, refunded no problems but ive only just got round to opening the box as am in the process of moving - its badly damaged! i cant believe it the casing is all cracked. CAN I TAKE IT BACK? AM I LIKELY TO HIT PROBLEMS? just for a swap that is as i want to keep it

What does your receipt say? Have they marked it as refunded? Did you pay on cc or debit card? Could use this as proof of purchase rather than receipt if marked refunded.
Having said all that if its damaged its damaged and they should replace it anyway

Possibly slightly off topic, but I can't find the barcode scanner thread!

I was in Hemel Hempstead store and the scanner in the electricals isle was broken - was wondering if there were any other scanners in my local stores

I've been wondering exactly the same thing. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm sure it will.

Most CS people write "REFUND" on the receipt rather than Overcharge. This is going to make it difficult for you to prove that you didn't return it and get a refund. ALTHOUGH, if you go back to the same store, they will have a record of the sale and refund and their stock records will show that it never became their property again. Still, I don't fancy your chances if REFUND is on your reciept.

Does anyone know what the bottom line is from HO on the marking of receipts. Legally, Mr Ts have to treat it as any other purchase / warranty return, but if you don't have the paperwork to substantiate it, I would see their point of view if they got awkward.

Should be proveable one way or another - hopefully.

Is that the Goodmans Tv/DVD combi? I saw a sign in Tescos on Saturday saying they were subject to a product recall - something about a fire risk. :(

I'm sure this had been discussed before including confirmation form HO that goods can be exchanged even if purchased with R&R and that it's not your fault that you have been overcharged for the item and you still have the same rights.

    Have they marked your receipt?

I rang Tesco CS to check this out as we got one of the 21" combi's free last week. It isnt the 21" that's been recalled...it's the 14" so phew!

BTW if there is a problem with any product you have had r&r on - you have exactly th same rights as you normally do as a consumer.

This has been discussed before but I can't quite work out what the concensus was. What's the deal with those yellow labels (often on CDs) that have end-of-offer dates on the bottom right hand corner? The Tescos I went to had quite a few of them, for CDs. I couldn't find a scanner, but I assume that most of them scan at a higher price with the offers having run out in December and some even in November. But would r&r not apply because the end date is indicated?

    Thank you.

I note this week that Tesco Extra Seacroft Leeds is so sure that it is going to overcharge you on its cds that it has ( very tackily ) tippex-ed out the price of EVERY cd on its poster!

It's a bit unbecoming of Britains No1 Supermarket that they have such little confidence in their computer systems that individual stores are driven to vandalising their promotional material to prevent their customers getting the prices they purport to offer.
  • thanks guys. i will take it back tonight - receipt says overcharge not refund so i should be fine. i will let you all know what happens. the casing on the tv is cracked but the box and packaging is fine so someone in the tv factory must have broke it before pacaging it up hmmmmm :(
