I agree. I had to give up the other night, I was getting nowhere and just didn't want to create such a big scene over 3 cd's. HO aren't being very helpful though :(
  • I will phone head office and make them phone the store then because when I emailed them I was told just to go back with the e-mail but the manager said he'd need to phone on Monday and then he might be authorised to give back the difference but just as a geture of goodwill which I couldn't believe! He admitted remebering me and the poster and said to tell trading standards and let them investigate in a smug way because he had removed the poster.

I'm tempted to just start a war with that store now and tell trading standards of everything until they end up with a hefty fine, so that they start to realise that in a way we are actually helping.

    Here's an interesting one...

Tesco seemed to have cottoned on to the mispricing on fresh meats, but rather than make sure they have pricing right per kg, they have (well in my local store) plastered small blue signs everywhere which state:

    Customer Information
    Unit Price is used
    as a guide only

Now I wonder, would this stand up under retail law, or are Tesco trying to use it as a lame 'get-out' on mis-prices?

I think Trading standards come down hard on misselling due to weight (weights and measures).

Unless they're talking about rounding errors, I'd say they were on extremely dodgy ground and this would have to be reported to TS.

(Is it TS that deal with this type of thing, or is it customs & excise?)

I had a slightly difficult one this week.

Found Chicken Breast 8 Packs, Healthy Living ones with big yellow SEL down to about 5.40 per kg but all packs still showing £6.79. Took four.

Had a couple of Mackerel for good measure too.

    Total of about £37.00

When to CS and woman recognised me and clearly wasn't pleased to see me (again). Apparently, I go in and get £30 or so worth of stuff every week. I wasn't sure how to play it, as it was the first time I'd been challenged in this way. Often have to prove the point of the overcharge but haven't been "had" like that before. So I simply said that I didn't know about that and waited while she went off to the shelves to check and then to get the manager.

Having had a word with him out of my earshot, didn't seem to have any difference on his decision to refund me as, in his words, "The Gentleman's right".

I thought I was going to have a battle and be banned, so I was getting my Pocket PC ready to record the conversation to replay to Head Office. But, he followed company policy and I left the store with some more freezer fodder.

It did put me off a little though and when I next went into a store (not the same one) a few days later, I stopped myself picking up three legs of lamb and got just the one (shameful I know). I am now looking forward to a decent Sunday Roast tomorrow.

Incidentally, I find my XDA2 to be a fabulous tool for Tesco shopping as I can keep up to date, in real time with the misprice thread as I can surf and shop at the same time. I can even photograph the SELs in case there's any confusion!

Thanks to all posters - Great forum.

How about saying something like ' Yes your right I get overcharged by about £30 every week in this store, and I would go to the local papers and Trading standards about this but so far you have always done the right thing and stuck by your r&r policy, of course if you know longer want to abide by your company policy and continue to over charge me every week I can go to Trading Standards instead - what's your name by the way because they will probably want to use it in the court case, and I'm sure the papers will want to include it! Also it's a good job I always save my reciepts because I can show TS at least 6 times I have over charged here in the last 2 months' !!!

I think they'd just give you the r&r after that.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Boo Hoo, just been to all 3 of my local big tescos and none had anything mispriced and I had a BIG list from this site, also all 3 stores had staff in every other isle with little wheelie trollys and scanners checking all prices! Seems to me Tesco are clamping down on misprices now also I've noticed since christmas all the CS people are a lot tougher when they were helpful before! maybe there's been an internal memo or somthing?

I don't see how it could stand up. If it's a guide only how can they come up with a price and expect anyone to take it seriously?

I haven't seen these signs myself.

Have just returned from my local store where I had the "You do this every week" comment and couldn't find an overcharge in the store so I'd spend £70.00 without a trip to CS, however, I did manage to catch the womans eye on CS as I went out with a trolley full of bits. Just nice to prove a point.

    OH bagged 2 Phillips Stereo VR550 VCR's. SEL £44.97 scanned at £49.97

Went out for takeaway curry in a hurry and came back with 2 VCR's.
The wrong SEL was up high on a shelf...so high that the CS lady had to get a step ladder to read it! My OH has eagle eyes though LOL.
CS lady very nice, but Dept. Manager had to be called to authorise refund and was not a happy camper! Said "If you dont mind me asking...why did you purchase 2?" to which OH replied "because I thought buying 6 would have been taking the mick and I'm not greedy!"
Manager tried saying that the shelf was for stock purpose only and so r&r didnt apply. OH said well if its only for stock why is there a SEL at all? Manager had to conceed.
LOL - he has a nerve! Manager then proceeded to follow him around the store inspector Clouseau style, noting the prices of everything he looked at. Of course OH took the p*ss and examined all sorts of strange items...even smiled and waved at him LMAO!!
Curry was late home but a thoroughly good time had by all!!!
Well done :T Your OH's escapade has really brightened up my Sunday pass on my congrats
