  • Just to save anyone wasting their time I took a good look around Tescos at Notley Garden Village in Essex and their pricing seemed to be spot on, could not find anything wrongly priced at all

A shame in one way but also an example to other Tescos for how it should be

If someone would fix the scanner though it would make life easier
Only time will tell if I am right or they are wrong
  • so how exactly do you know if your gonna get overcharged? do u have to get lucky? i mean today there were tvs, what if i went in and the price was right? id be stuck with tv... sorry im new....

If The Price Is Right When It Goes Through The Check Out I Leave It Until The End Of The Shop And Say Ive Spent Too Much Today Will You Take This Item Off And I Will Get It Next Time I Am In Or Proceed To Buy It So They Will Take More Of My Coupons And Request A Refund After I Have Paid For The Item. I Did This With Numerous Shops Over The Xmas Period, Put On High Value Goods So I Could Get More Coupons Took Off And Then Returned Them As A Duplicate Gift Next Shopping Trip.

If it was near the start that it went through do you haveto wait for a supervisor or can they take it of themselves?

The Sa Can Usually Take It Off Themselves. I Put In 3 Cds Hoping They Were Going To Go Through At The Wrong Price But They Did Not So Said I Would Just Get Them The Next Time As I Did Not Realise I Had Spent So Much. I Also Found It Of Benefit To Buy £50 Worth Of Clothing To Be Able To Hand In The £10 Vouchers Off Clothing If You Spend £50 On Clothing. I Then Take The Clothing Back As Unsuitable And I Got The £10 Voucher Off My Groceries As It Does Not Say On Receipt What It Was For And Cs Just Think It Is An Ordinary Coupon. I Have Never Had Anyone Make Any Remarks About The Number Of Coupons I Hand In When I Return Items.

  • There are two possibility's here 1) Mr t has now got his act together and ordered a full sweep of his stores or 2) Monday is the day that a normal legal check of the store happens. I'm guessing but it may be no 2. I work for another supermarket and our Admin dept do a complete check of the SEL's as Monday's are major price change days. I would assume later on in the week as extra price changes begin to take effect you may start to see mistakes as staff dont check the SEL'S. As for CD's this may happen at the start of each week as posters are changed (or not as the case might be!)
  • Surely there must be some disgruntled T worker out there who can give us the lowdown on how and when to play.
  • Stevenage store have used a big fat marker pen to black out the price on the posters!! Aren't they naughty?! :rotfl:

We should get a load of customers to ask why it is they have done this - I'd love to hear their reasonings!

My OH Works for Mr T. - (she`s had too many bargains to give a hoot bout this place see boots thread time delay ;) )

SELs can be changed by the person on the shop floor in that department at any time if they notice a discrepency.

When they are putting items onto the shelf they are supposed to check the price per KG/pack price against the SEL and amend as they go along.

Due to the fact that Mr T is like most employers they simply don`t have enough time to do this all the time.

Thats when items slip through the net. Remember we are talking about a handful of misprices in a range of 1000's of products.

Also there are deliveries all day & night to stores and sometimes the next batch has changes in pack prices which overlap the SEL prices. this would seem to be the case with £ per KG prices.

One thing I`ve not seen written about in here is when Mr T pays you to take his goods away. Usually when items are reduced for quick sale - look out for 3 for the price of 2 offers.

for example - Sausages - £1.50 per pack reduced to 49p, 3 for price of 2.

Till will normally scan them all at 49p and then deduct £1.50 as per the 3 for 2 offer.

In that case you'd get them for nothing and get 52p back off Tesco. :)

The last bit is what happens in Sainsbury's but I didn't know it worked in Tesco to. When they reduce items they don't amend the '2 for' or '3 for 2' deduction amount. In Morrisons, I've seen signs saying that these sort of offers don't work if the item is reduced.

There are a number of different offers ie BOGOF, 2 FOR, 3 FOR, Buy 2 save £££; etc. It is the 2 FOR style offers I think you need to be careful with. If something is reduced from £2 to 50p and is on 2 for £3, when you get 2 for £1 you can't argue that you havent got 2 for £3 - ie. you've got a better deal!

However, the best sort of deal is the 'BUY 2 SAVE £5' style. For example, salmon is often about £6.99 but Buy 2 save £5. Now if it's reduced to say £3 you should still save £5 - ie. get 2 for £1. The offer doesn't state 'unless these items are reduced'. Therefore, whatever price you pay, they are obliged to honour the £5 deduction.

Thats my opinion anyway, and in my experience that is what happens at the till.
