today in leyland i saw the samsung a402 digital camera had a large sign and a sel advertising it at £89.97 offer ending 3/1/06, great i thought when lady scanned it through at £99.99. the checkout runner went to exchange the dummy box for the camera and i rec'd my a402 camera. went to CS who agreed that i had been overcharged and called manager to auth the r+r. it turned out to be a manager that has done r+r's for me in the past and was 'aware' of me. he checked the sel and then disappeared in the back (never happened b4)he came out saying that the camera was scanning at the lower price, when i queried why i had been charged £99.99 he said that i must have given the case for the a400 to the checkout lady. my point was that if this was the case would i not have rec'd the a400 when the runner went in the back, i also asked if the a400 was in stock, or indeed advertised on the diplay and he said no - cal me suspicious but i have a sneaky feeling he changed the price in the back - is that possible? and is it worth pursuing this as a r+r or jut take the camera back - he charged me the £89.97 for it in the end cos i was in a hurry to pick my son up from nursery. thanks in advance.Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!0 -
When you sense your luck and you can smell the R and R coming then dont let the tesco man out of your sight. If he says he is going off somewhere then you must tell him you will wait at the shelf where you got the offending item from. Go straight there waisting no time. I dont trust the buggers.0

HELP NEEDED
Went to Tesco Irlam last night and saw a Dyson hoover - i asked an assistant how much it was and he scanned it at £249.97 - decided to buy it.
Before i left the store i went back to the shelf to price another hoover for my sister. It was then i noticed the price for the Dyson i had just bought was £179.97
i went straight to CS and was there over 30 minutes. Was told i couldnt have a refund cos i had been told the price beforehand. I pointed out that the shelf price was wrong but still to no avail.
The young girl that walked to the shelf with me told me i would get a full refund as id been overcharged.
The assistant manager refused - the CS assistant refused and Head Office was closed.
Refunded me the £249.97 and kept the hoover !!!!!!
Where do i stand ?????0 -

Seems quite simple to me - should have had R&R regardless of what you were told prior if you find that the price advertised was less - hope they're not claiming that the price went down in the minutes after you bought it.
I'd have kept the hoover and argued the point once HO opened again. You still have a right to return and get full refund for 28 days (I think it's 28) if you have reciept and goods are returned in same condition as sold to you.
Anyway, this discussion should be in the policy forum......
On a different note, I looked at this item in the Sprowston, Norwich store yesterday and was interested to see that it was the only vacuum without an SEL......
ALSO, Noticed in the same store that the SEL for the Sony 15inch TFT TV was £299 and not the £349 that it went back up to after the promo. Is this a mistake or have they actually reduced the price (£349 for a 15inch TFT TV is damn expensive, especially if it's not widescreen).0 -

Sounds incredibly suspicious to me - he must have done a switch-a-roo with the boxes. I dont fancy your chances of getting r&r now though. It would be your word against his. They are crafty sods arent they! I would just get a refund if I were you. I just wouldnt be bothered with the hassle if it were me. Although it must be infuriating!0 -

I can actually see their point on this one...They told you the price and you agreed to it so, even though they had a lower price SEL up, that didnt influence your decision to buy (in their eyes). I would chalk it up to experience as I dont fancy your chances of any r&r - just a lot of grief! It's a bloomin shame mind you!0 -

I disagree.
When considering the principal of this, you are perhaps right. However, the principal here is unimportant, I feel. It was still an overcharge.
How is this any different from being told by a shelf scanner that the price is £249? Just because you have a question answered by a human (who's using a barcode scanner connected to the same computer system), why is that any different to finding out the price for yourself?0 -

I feel that some stores are being incredibly sneaky with things like this. If this has happened, it's bordering on fraud.
I always take a photo of the SEL and display if I think there will be any doubt/arguement at the CS desk. Have never had to use it yet, but feel that it's increasingly necessary.
Just because a member of staff is aware of you, dosen't mean to say that you should be treated any differently. An overcharge is an overcharge, whether you have pre-suspicions or not.0
