  • Charged twice for one item

Apologies if this has been discussed before, have done a quick search but not found anything.....

Last week I bought some pasta from Tesco and the till person scanned it twice. I took my receipt to customer services and I was given the full amount for 2 packets of past back plus I kept the pasta. Tonight I bought a toy laptop (4.97) and it was scanned twice (must have a habit of doing this in my local store!). I took my receipt to CS and they gave me the money back for 1 toy laptop. I asked about their policy on overcharging (pointing at the sign) and they said that this was an operator error and so on this occasion did not apply and refused to refund anymore.

Anyone else any experience of this and what was the outcome? Should I have pushed harder?

I was also claiming an overcharge on Pringles and was initially offered the difference but I said that this time their policy did specifically state that I get the whole amount back and keep the goods and then the CS person obliged.

Although this was resolved correctly last time at the same store, I have found that it depends on who is staffing the CS desk at the time of your visit.

Operator error or not, the main thing is that was was overcharged, and is wasn't your fault!

I had a similar outcome a month or two ago - just refuse the difference if that's the only offer (as in the pringles), or if they only want to refund the one item - then get in touch with Head Office (0800 50 55 55), and see what they have to say.

    Good Luck.

Tesco have always had a bulk buy policy. Its not to limit R&R its for the benefit of all our customers. For example, if you walked in and bought 100 bottles of a certain vodka or whatever that would clear the stores stock. There then may well be many dissapointed customers over the next day or two who wanted that product but now can't get it. Availability is one of the companies biggest things so this is a way of ensuring it.

It is at store discretion however. The Tills flag up a message at 10 of anything saying "Bulk buy, are you sure quantity is above 10?". However most stores choose 6 or 12 (2 seems low). It also depends on what you buy. If your buying value beans or coca cola, of which stores stock loads of, then its not a problem, but items stores dont hold much stock of (many non-foods only stock a case, groceries shelf capacity + a case) it may be enforced. the notices are there to avoid dissapointment should it need to be enforced.

For customers that DO need a lot of certain products, whether it be a one off or recurring, they do offer a customer order facility whereby extra stock is ensured so you can have your goods. At the end of the day, Tesco is a retailer not a wholesaler, they do not have infinite warehouse space, and this policy helps to ensure customers can "get what they want"

I dont think the issue is on buying the items in bulk if you look at other posts. Its on getting R and R if overcharged that the bulk buy policy seems to kick in

Hi, I'm a newbie and not sure if I'm posting in right place - sorry!

Just been to tesco's, spent loads but didn't check my receipt until I got home. I was charged three times for one magazine (£6 instead of £2). I rang cs and they said I have to bring the receipt back to that store to get a refund BUT I never usually go to that store, it's miles away. As they made the mistake do you think it's me that has to go out of my way to get the money back? is there anything else I can do?

    Thanks!
  • The £598.00 computer has been reduced to £536.00 had about 3 SELs at 598.00 and 1 for the reduced price, couldn't check though because the computer is in the box and I couldn't lift it.

Just go to your nearest branch. Dont forget that you are entitled to all money back ie £6 plus to keep the magazine. Hope this helps. If you dont live near a store then call HO

Warning re: Terry's choc oranges... Saw an old SEL today (dated November), buy 4 for £5 and thought, woohoo, free chocolate. However, the discount did kick in at the till... icon11.gif Probably a new offer (as I know they've been 2 for £3 recently) and they just used an old SEL..?

Could not be bothered to return them so will just have to eat the chocolate :snow_grin
