Sorry if this has already been posted.I was in my local tesco extra today at the CS desk waiting for my R&R,behind the counter on the wall was a A4 notice stating "2 item limit on bulk purchases".To be honest i cant remember the exact words but i do know nowhere on the poster did it mention R&Rs,but i can see them only giving R&RS on 2 of the same item. This poster must be aimed at the R&Rs though there is nothing on the poster to say this,i must add there was no official Tesco logo or anything on the poster. The store was toton(notts)so be carefull.

I think the key here is that this is a bulk BUY policy. Therefore if they want to enforce it, surely they need to do this at the point of sale and not at the point of refund for a misprice! Just my two penny worth but probably worth pointing out to the CS.

I think this policy has been introduced following Mr Ts inability to manage misprices. I can't see the logic for this policy otherwise, as surely Mr T would like us to buy as many items as we like to keep turnover up. The policy does not make sense either as there are various multi-buy promotions across the store (e.g Buy 3 bottles of beer for £4, buy 6 bottles of wine and save 5%, etc).

I have A4 sheets sellotaped to the wall behind the CS desk with bulk buy limits of 2, 4 and 6 items and they all look they have been prepared locally rather than something officially released by HO. Has anybody tested the validity of them with HO?

I was in the above store today - claiming my very first ever R&R! (on a Stevie Wonder CD set) - and noticed a typed sign at CS proclaiming a 12 item bulk buy limit generally and only 2 on mobile phones, digital cameras and memory cards - though it said "at store discretion" next to the 2 item limit :xmassign: .

    cheers,

Heanor store has A4 white paper sign up saying "bulk purchase-max6 items on overcharge policy"& Ilkeston ditto(no mention of R&R on sign though). These signs do seem to be being put up at the store managers discretion as the wording & quantities differ from store to store, with some stores having no signs at all.I would suggest taking a look behind the CS desk before you shop in which ever store(s) you use.
  • Yes, Tesco Lincoln now have a handwritten "policy" of a maximum of 2 for bulk buying stuck up behing the CS desk. This has been there for at least 3 weeks but I wouldn't like to test it. I suppose if they will not do R&R on more than 2 items you can always get a refund on the other ones above 2?

I sent a letter (recorded delivery) to Mr Terry Leaghy about an incident in which the duty manager refused to give me a R&R. This was on the 28 November. I've had no reply. Anyone else had to wait this long for a reply?

Yes indeed I have emailed and phoned and to this day I have had no reply, I've been told it takes £20 to take them to Court as a civel matter and am thoughtfully considering this as it will cost them a lot more on legal fees and bad press to deal with as a civel matter.

How much does a Tesco lawyers charge!!!! for a measly r&R

Do you have any evidence of the price displayed?

As a matter of interest do you still shop in Tesco? I havent been back since, starting to miss the R&Rs though

  • My sister (who was going on hoilday) bought 48 cartons of prepared baby milk and 20 jars of baby was overcharged on the cartons of milk. When she went for a refund they told her that due to there 6 item bulk buy policy that she couldn't have a refund on all 48. She argued that they were happy enough to sell her the 48 cartons, along with the 20 jars of food and that she should have been stopped buying them at the checkout if this was the case. She was given a full refund on all 48 cartons. :j

Tesco have always had a bulk buy policy. Its not to limit R&R its for the benefit of all our customers. For example, if you walked in and bought 100 bottles of a certain vodka or whatever that would clear the stores stock. There then may well be many dissapointed customers over the next day or two who wanted that product but now can't get it. Availability is one of the companies biggest things so this is a way of ensuring it.

It is at store discretion however. The Tills flag up a message at 10 of anything saying "Bulk buy, are you sure quantity is above 10?". However most stores choose 6 or 12 (2 seems low). It also depends on what you buy. If your buying value beans or coca cola, of which stores stock loads of, then its not a problem, but items stores dont hold much stock of (many non-foods only stock a case, groceries shelf capacity + a case) it may be enforced. the notices are there to avoid dissapointment should it need to be enforced.

For customers that DO need a lot of certain products, whether it be a one off or recurring, they do offer a customer order facility whereby extra stock is ensured so you can have your goods. At the end of the day, Tesco is a retailer not a wholesaler, they do not have infinite warehouse space, and this policy helps to ensure customers can "get what they want"
