You should have disputed that.
well i thought that at the time, then i was more of the thought "well if thats wot its like how long wud i last there"
when i was doing the application form i was readng the questions as things you might receive if you worked there, so one of my questions was "when do coldplay tickets go on sale for theig gig at MEN"
So i give a full answer from all the info on ticketmaster, AQA told me "you should have added "tickets are now sold out", but i was answering the questions as i would have received them eg if i received that question before they tickets was released!, obviously if i actually worked there and the question was text into me, i would answer it on the info relevant for that day, ie tickets are now sold out,
i hope this info helps anyone thinking of applying, good luck to you all!0 -
I've done my test. It was really hard!! Not so much the answers, but being able to fit everything into 153 characters. I could have gone on for ages and had to do some major editing fo fit it all in. Really hope I pass but it was really tough.
good luck, let us know how ya get on!0 -
Hi everyone, I applied for AQA and managed to get in. I was just looking for some info from someone who works for them already. It says that you must do an induction over the phone. How long does this usually take? Thanks!0

I've never had to grovel either! I got marked down on a question once - I didn't agree with my supervisor, told her why, and she reinstated the mark.
I guess it depends on your supervisor, I know from the people I had spoken to there were people having a similar problem and others not, so I guess it is 'luck' of the draw.0 -
I notice they are recruiting again. I just sent them an email. I read somewhere in this thread that they need references? Could someone tell me how many and what sort were required?
Thanks0 -
I emailed them yestreday, got an email back saying I should receive the application stuff but haven't received anything else since
Maybe they've filled all the positions now?Saving for a deposit: £11,000 / £50,000 (22%)0 -
Just thought I'd say hello! I don't use this forum a lot but a friend of mine just sent me a link to this thread to read through. I've been an AQA researcher since February and this thread's made for interesting reading.
As other people have said, working for AQA is very stressful. The strict rules and guidelines make for a lot of pressure, and a few small mistakes - if you're unlucky enough to have more than two picked out in a review - can mean the quick loss of a job.
I nearly lost my own job last month, due to simple misunderstandings, but managed to explain/beg my way into keeping the job because the fact is, no matter how stressful it gets, I love that I can work whenever I want and make over £1000 a month in the process. For me as a student, being able to pick and choose when to work, and make as much money as I need or want to, is invaluable. It means I never have to worry about money, and short-notice events/assignment deadlines don't worry me, because I can just decide not to work for a few days.
It's a shame it's so strict, and I'm always worried about losing AQA because I see it as the perfect job; something that I'd do forever if I had the choice.0 -
I applied to them last week when I saw that they were recruiting in the UK again. I'd applied around 7 months ago, but failed then so decided to abide by the rules and wait 6 months before I reapply... so last week I e-mailed them, got the form sent through within 2 days, sent it back within the time limit... this morning I heard back and once again, Its a big fat NO. :wall:
A friend of mine who is an AQA researcher has looked through my answers and only picked up on 2 minor errors... and said they'd be harsh to fail you if it was for that. I've requested feedback though so I hope I get some, and I'll let people know what they say if anyone would like the tips.
Good luck to anyone else who has 'passed the test' as it can be a great job, though by the sounds of this thread some people have had it tough.:starmod: :starmod: :starmod: "Live like you mean it, Love 'til you feel it" :starmod: :starmod: :starmod:- The Goo Goo Dolls0 -
one of the questions i got was "in scrabble is the wors TURKS" allowed, so i used the obvious choice to source and answer for that, the scrabble official website, they have a word checker on it and u just type in the word, they give you the answer if its allowed or not,
so i used it, typed in TURKS, and it came back NO NOT ALLOWED, so thats the answer i used on my allpication form,
and guess what, AQA failed it saying "in the gaem scrabble the word TURKS, IS indeed allowed"
Sadly, piglet, you've been done over here. TURKS is NOT permitted in UK Scrabble. It is, however, permitted in US Scrabble.
As a bit of a Scrabble fanatic, I have been arguing the toss with AQA over this. IIRC, the wordchecker used on the Scrabble site is currently Collins. However, the official reference dictionary for Scrabble in the UK is Chambers. This clearly gives the answer - yes in the US but not in the UK.
My hardback copy of Chambers states on the back that it is the official reference dictionary for Scrabble. And, because I wanted to be absolutely sure that hadn't changed since it was published in 2000, I emailed them through the Scrabble site (helplineuk@mattel.com). They confirmed I was correct - Chambers in the UK.
To my mind, it's completely black & white, but for AQA it's a very grey area - they don't have a clear policy on what to use for Scrabble questions. So, ask them if ZA is a word, and they'll probable say it is (it isn't). Ask them the highest scoring word, they'll say it's BENZOXYCAMPHORS (again, not permissible).
Your ideal answer would have been that TURKS is not permitted in the UK, but is permissible in the US.
I'm glad I've got that off my chest....If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

That must have changed since I started - I did my intro over Yahoo...If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
