  • Daughter actually ;) For what the job actually entails, the strictness of the test as mentioned before by someone who didn't get it simply because they used a comma instead of a semi colon is ridiculous. Its not because i couldn't be bothered, it was because whilst i am confident that i have a decent standard of English i knew it would not be good enough to pass their test.

To be fair, I think the comma/semi-colon issue was described by the poster as being only one of the reasons he/she failed. I'd find it hard to believe that it was a sole reason for failure.

I too work for AQA, in pretty much the same way as mrbadexample, and I absolutely love it. The questions range from simple to verging on the ridiculous & a certain amount of humour is encouraged where the question demands it. The variety is what makes it enjoyable. If I find a question unanswerable I skip it.

I have another job full-time and work for AQA in the evenings/at weekends; sometimes often, sometimes hardly. My monthly pay has ranged from £70 to £500+ and I step it up when I need to.

I've never had a problem with 'supervisers' or reviews. On the few occasions I've had contact with senior researchers, they've always been friendly and helpful. The reviews are carried out monthly to start with, then less often after a few months. I've never had my account frozen; maybe that happens if the amount of errors is more serious. I've made the odd grammatical/spelling faux pas. It's not seen as the end of the world as long as it's kept to a minimum.
  • My brother did it for a while. There were good points and bad points.

When it was busy (Sunday nights were good due to the number of people cheating on pub quizzes) he could average £7 an hour. But at quiet times when there were few questions and the only ones left would be toughies he couldn't do much. But you can do it while listening to music/watching TV (depending on how well you can multitask.)

You get a lot of 'amusing' questions - like the 'who am I/what am I wearing/does Chris fancy me?' type, where you need to be creative and a bit humorous, but you can basically answer in seconds. You also get a lot of directions questions which are easy enough. It can be quite fun and varied. It's a decent job if you are nifty with google/wikipedia.

No, it wasnt the only reason I failed, it was one of them, some of the other reasons given were hard for me to work out, like i said before im not sure how much detail i can go into, though as i dont work for them maybe i can go into more details, i have PMed anyone who asked with more details on what i was marked down on, once again good luck to everyone who does go for it, but the reasons they have give me for failing has in turn made me glad i didnt get in,

I've got the application form. Some of the questions look a bit tricky, but I am going to give it a go. Are sources like Wikipedia acceptable? It seems the most obvious for factual questions; I am just a tad concerned that they will see it as an unreliable source and that will mean a failure of the application.

Sources like Wikipedia are extremely useful, and are considered acceptable. However, you would be advised to check anything that looks a bit fishy, as Wikipedia can be unreliable at times. It would be unreasonable for them to expect you not to rely on such sources, otherwise when do you stop looking for the answer?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

it really is hard to decide on what source to use as the most reliable, and i will give you an example,

one of the questions i got was "in scrabble is the wors TURKS" allowed, so i used the obvious choice to source and answer for that, the scrabble official website, they have a word checker on it and u just type in the word, they give you the answer if its allowed or not,

so i used it, typed in TURKS, and it came back NO NOT ALLOWED, so thats the answer i used on my allpication form,

and guess what, AQA failed it saying "in the gaem scrabble the word TURKS, IS indeed allowed"

so like i said before, i am stumped as to what they wanted, and how are you supposed to pass with questions like that, one "reliable" website tells you NO and the person marking your answers says "YES", thats what your up against,

good luck to all how do apply, i just thought on thoses basis, how are you expected to pass,

I've done my test. It was really hard!! Not so much the answers, but being able to fit everything into 153 characters. I could have gone on for ages and had to do some major editing fo fit it all in. Really hope I pass but it was really tough.
2010 Comp wins: Lamaze baby toy, Cushelle koala, Frusli bars, knitted monkey, nursery rhyme DVD

Christmas sorted for my LO (apart from Frusli bars - they're mine!)

    You should have disputed that.
