Called them up a little while ago. (They're there 24/7 according to the message they left)
The guy I spoke to seemed unaware that I'd already reported the dodgy transactions last week to their main customer services number. I think he expected me to not know anything about the problem yet...
    ...

Makes me wonder, if they didn't know you knew about it, how did they know that there was a problem....? UNLESS this IS a big problem, thwy know that *X* or *Y* card numbers from MSDW have been purloined and cloned, and are going through the accounts one by one.

OK, I am into the conspiracy theory thing, but communication at Barclaycard head office seems to be so bad, that if they aren't operating from your original contact to them, then how the heck would they know to contact you otherwise. If that makes sense?

  • Well I have written asking them to close my account as I'm just not interested in chasing them for the new card that I've not received. There are better cards out there. Hope they enjoyed buying my account off Goldfish, because it was a complete waste of money for them.

I guess they must have a sophisticated fraud detection system that can identify suspicious transactions within 16 days of them occurring. I'm sure they're also working on passing reports of fraudulent card use between India and the UK but that's going to need some advanced technology so you can't blame them for not managing that yet.

    Hello MoneySavers,
I found out today that 5 fraudulent transactions totalling ~£2600:eek: have been made on the new Barclaycard that replaced my Morgan Stanley card last month. 4 in Taiwan and one in Milan on the same day. The only thing I've ever done with this card is change the PIN at a nearby cash machine then bring it home and put it back in the drawer. Could I really have not noticed a dodgy device on the machine?! It was dark at the time...
Anyway, I've reported this to Barclaycard who've blocked the card and are going to send a letter out telling me what to do next.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this with Barclaycard and can let me know what to expect or give any advice based on their experience.
    Many Thanks!

Mine was found to be used in Turin where 3K was spent within days. Barclays wont admit a problems but i was negligant with the card and not careful (i shread everything or keep it in a safe draw)

I was wondering if i was the only one i haven't been on the forums for a while.

  • No dispute forms for me yet so I've sent a letter since I've phoned for them twice now. In the second call, they confirmed the spending was on the old MS card, as many of you have found.

I'm expecting a deluge of new posts on the thread soon, since I'd have thought more folks are going to start receiving their paper statements.

Does anyone know if this little episode is likely to impact upon my (otherwise spotless) credit rating?
  • If you just got switched from Morgan Stanley to Barclaycard - write them a letter outraged that you can no longer access your historic statements via their online webservice (they only show statements since BC took over). As I paid an annual fee for my i24 card, and they unilaterally took away a service I paid for (historic statements) it was very easy (two emails) to get a full refund on my annual fee (275 quid). Suppose it depends which card you were on - but if you paid an annual fee deffo worth chasing.
  • £275 &*%$ wept! That is some bloomin fee!

I paid nothing and have my paper statements in a file, thank heavens. I've filled in my forms to send back (they are going recorded deliveryand I'm taking copies) so just waiting now for a reply to my complaint letter and to the forms/

BTW Ravcat, the forms say that any interest, fees and stuff will be refunded, so as far as it goes if they do all they say (I leave my thoughts on that with you) your credit rating shouldn't be affected.

  • Yer - it was touch and go whether it was worth it, but seeing as I have it all back - it is! For the £275 I got good annual travel insurance for whole family (a good policy too), one of those concierge services (never used), 1% cashback on everything (no limits before the rate changes) - I shift a few grand a month so that adds up, an airport priority pass to get me into lounges at airports (worth 130 quid - and seeing as I commute to Barcelona every week - worth it for me!) - plus zero commision on overseas purchases (Again - I'm in spain three days a week so that adds up huge).

Just about worth it at £275 - deffo worth it at nowt! ;)

    AHAR,

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me, haven't used my morgan stanley for over a year, got the replacement Barclaycard followed by pins, changed the pins then stashed the cards away. Received a statement 10th Oct. with 19 transactions on it totalling 1702 pounds, shock horror.

Barclycard have been cr*p, cutting me of when I rang, putting me on hold forever, went to Barclays and they basically told me to !!!!!! of as Barclaycard was nothing to do with them!

After finally getting through one of their minions implied it was my fault as I must have been careless with my pin, ( highly unlikely as I guard it like the crown jewells and it stays only in my head) but after reading this thread it seems like something sinister is going on.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I think Watchdog-
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/
and the financial help pages of the newspapers need to be informed, that'll be next job after writing this and I suggest all of you who are in the same boat as me do the same.

Finally, I received the disclaimer forms, minus the freepost letter they promise, this morning, 12 days and 5 phone calls after requesting it.

    Good luck everyone.
