I'm planning to buy a Samsung NC10 from Curry's, going through Top Cashback first as there's 3.5% cashback on Curry's purchases.

It's the £259 deal with £20 cashback from Samsung by redemption, bringing it down to £239.

The thing is, I was about to order one to collect in my local branch, when I spotted a discount code (COMP5) giving 5% off, which is valid for laptops over £250 - but expires tomorrow 16/12. I tested it on my basket and sure enough, it knocks £12.95 off the price (and delivery is free, too).

I'm just wondering, though, if it would invalidate the £20 cashback offer if I use this code. I've had a look at the T&C for the offer, which states:

This promotion cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion including, but not limited to, any broadband or mobile phone promotion through which the customer has received or purchased the Samsung Note PC NC10.

I suppose a discount code falls into 'any other promotion', doesn't it? So, should I just buy it without the discount and go for the £20 cashback, or take a risk on getting an instant £12.95 off now, and hope I can get the cashback too?

    Tricky one...

Haven't seen too many reports of anyone actually receiving their cashback payment yet. It's supposed to take no more than 28 days.

Read the T&Cs carefully before purchase.

They may decide that the price that you paid was a promotional price. Wouldn't put it past them.

At Dixons the product is priced at £249. But in the small print at the bottom of the form it is written that the £20 cashback is based on the SSP of £269.

    Dixons Samsung NC10 £249

Refurbished model in blue for £219 if you have a problem with cashflow. :)

Though I'd be nervous about buying from that lot. :)

    Asus EeePC 1005HA Seashell.

I've just bought this netbook with 8.5 hrs battery life (although I suspect it will be about 6 in practice) at £227 from PC World Business. I also got 9.75 cashback from one of the cashback sites. I think this is as a good a price as you can get without buying refurbished. The MS Wind U100 is a good netbook but the limited battery life at 3hrs is simply not good enough for people on the move. I would always pay an extra £20 for models with better battery life.

Virez, post#180 is the first person on this thread to mention 'weight'. Weight is very important for me; I'm based in Cyprus so have to fly anywhere when visiting outside the country. I really struggled last year with my HP laptop + luggage. Looking for a netbook which I can take in carry-on luggage, with decent battery-life etc and light. Can anyone direct me to a site where netbooks are described with weight also?
  • ACER Aspire One 531 with 6 cell battery, 2 yrs gtee and offer of W7 upgrade

Just bought an Acer One 531-0BB (blue) netbook from John Lewis, instore at Milton Keynes, at £259.95. Not the cheapest, but it comes with a 2 year guarantee free, and best of all, an opportunity to by an upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium for only £19.95. The upgrade is a full retail version, suitable, it says, for XP and Vista PCs, so it's suitable either to upgrade this netbook, or any other PC using XP or Vista.
The netbook comes with Windows 7 Starter edition, which doesn't have the fancy Aero bits nor can you change the wallpaper (!), and doesn't have Media Centre.
The netbook has the 6 cell battery, so around 6-7 hours of use, and 1gb ram, 160 gb hard drive.
The offer is only on this netbook at JL, not even the black version has the offer. I bought it instore last week, and they honoured the offer, even though it was only on their website.
The JL item number is 230676457.
  • Im after a decent Netbook dont want to pay more than £300 ideally.

I thought netbook fans and potential purchasers might like to read this BBC report, which talks about what could be the death of Netbooks, due to a general shift in what internet users want.

I think it is quite fair that the cost of netbooks are getting too high, when you can buy for £300 a basic spec full laptop, that can cope better with internet demards on multimedia. Also coupled with smartphones allowing direct internet browsing.

It would be nice for a discussion from netbook owners of their experiences, where they find problems As a laptop owner and the need for a bit of grunt under the keys a netbook just wouldn't cut it but the £200 difference in cost of my laptop it still does come at the better value.
