I think anyone who has received money should refrain from posting lest they be accused of basking in their smug-satisfied selves while the rest remain at home swetaing like pigs guzlzing bottles of plonk.
Thanks but I must say I don't agree.

I don't know about what others want, but personally I'd like to have a realistic chance of knowing how things are going from this thread.

I appreciate that it's tempting for the people who have had their money to be smug about it - but I'd still like to know about it anyway. What I don't want is for people who have had their money to be too scared to post, making the situation look worse than it actually is. I certainly don't want any runs sparked on any banks.

Myself, I've decided that I can't afford to run the risk of liquidity hiccups, as I'm relying on my savings to pay my rent while studying and only working part-time. But in the mean time, if really necessary, I still have credit cards and cash ISA's. So I won't withdraw all my savings from KE, but I will try to withdraw enough to cover at least three months rent without leaving it to the last minute. Then I plan to set up a series of weekly "liquidity test" withdrawals of £1 a time. Whether I will later put money back into KE, or try to withdraw the lot, depends on how the timeliness of those test withdrawals play out.
    :p

however, if you PM me if you haven't received a CHAPS that you paid for and give me the details vis-a-vis dated requested (and ballpark amount if you're willing) plus linked bank I'll set up a database ready for Monday - if it proves necessary. I still think the money will arrive but I'd rather be prepared.

We requested ours just after 2pm on Tuesday 7th in the sum of £35k to pay our builder - who is not happy; our linked account is Lloyds

    Bump.

Just to let you know that responses so far are for different banks as linked accounts and amounts vary hugely. It is not an issue caused by your receiving bank

Updated a few lines on since original post 3520

Early October, Icesave Bank melted away
Kaupthing Edge dived the very next day
But Gordon Brown, hearing of our plight
Moved our savings to ING by the end of the night
Since then empty promises from I N G
Friday - told to wait and see
So come through for us ING without delay
And pay us our savings back today

After hours of waiting, it has come to light
that ING's promises are a load of !!!!!
Worthless words to those of us who wait
Stop the lies and tell us straight.......
    WHERE IS OUR ******* MONEY!

This is a good idea. If we also include the transaction ID as well, we can then get ING to adress each individual transaction. ING then will have to tell us what has happened to it. I will send you my details.

  • KE was declared to be under default. That is my understanding (right or wrong). End of story.
One declaration was made last week, yes, but that's irrelevant, because in law all liability of FSCS has been extinguished with the transfer to ING. Look at para 15 of this order:

    http://www.england-legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20082674_en_3#pt4-l1g15-l1p1

"an eligible claimant has no right to claim, and the FSCS has no obligation to pay, for a relevant protected deposit any further compensation under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in respect of the default of Kaupthing."

Still, fortified as I now am by a few glasses of fine Norwegian aquavit, I'm much more relaxed, and supremely confident ING will cough up on Monday, so we won't need to worry about FSCS.

  • You are kidding right? I'm done with being fair to ING. They said that all tranfers would be IN the destination accounts by close of business on Oct 17th and they said that 4 days ago. They could have started transferring money from Tuesday but f**k all happened until yesterday/today and 99.99% of that seems to be BACS. And they are still bleating about clearing the backlog. It's just lame. If the person who had confirmed that the 17th was OK to go on the web site was working for me, they would be fired as of now. We'll get our Icesave money from the FSCS first if it carries on like this.

I am truly delighted for people that have got their money but slightly annoyed that those that opted for CHAPS at the time in order to make a quick transaction, largely seem to be those who have had nothing.

As I said earlier, the only thing missing from the ING web site is the word "half" in between "Johan de" and "Wit".

The nightmare scenario is..........our chaps requests have disappeared.....and ING or KE for that matter dont even know they exist! They could in teory keep telling us for months that some transactions will be done manually at some future date! We must gather a list of all transactions, and ask them the status of each.

  • I've been following this forum for the last few days but was yet to post. I really believed I'd get the money finally in my linked account today as promised, but i'm very disappointed that it hasn't. Yes I'm one of those CHAPS people - I've put in a CHAPS transfer request on the afternoon of Wed Oct 8 and can see nothing in my linked account.

Very happy for everyone who got their money back today, though I am very confused as to why BACS requests arrived today but CHAPS ones - that cost £20 to be faster (!) - didn't. Very strange indeed.
