Maybe FREE CHAPS is what is referred to here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=10655947
No its not. Faster payments is a totally new system which is being trialed and they are not accepted by every bank yet.0 -
geyyn - clearing banks CAN see what is going to happen tomorrow. First direct can tell me what is going in and/or out of my account.
Reading the last few posts it seems that we are all being told different things again..............0 -
Folks - if you read Martin's message carefully - the thread is being closed, Yes, but we will be directed to a NEW thread. This one is just getting a bit long. He said he normally does it without warning but he didn't want to upset people cos this thread is so popular by doing this without warning them.0

Nothing showing for me yet, but good to hear a couple of people's money is showing as pending. :T0

Not worth me calling Nationwide - they always tell me they cannot see things coming in before they arrive. I asked again the other day
.
Why is that?
Maybe only banks that also act as clearing banks can get this advance info?
Nationwide are listed as a clearing bank, see: http://www.howbankswork.com/popup01.html but then again, if they can't even manage to keep their website running for more than 5 mins, see: http://www.nationwide.co.uk then perhaps it's understandable that they can't help you...0 -
Maybe we should include this farce as one of Martins Money Saving tips....... as I haven't had access to my cash........ I've saved £100s more than I normally would have done!!!!!0

It seems to be a case that some banks can "see" payments on the way and some can't. I just called the Nat West and they can't see a payment on the way to my account today but said categorically that does NOT mean that there isn't something to be credited either today or tomorrow.
I made a CHAPS payment from KE early morning 7th October.
Tough as it is, we just have to sit tight and wait for the payments to come.0 -

Are they? Well then I'm baffled why they can't give me advance notice like some of the others. Guess I just gotta wait till Christmas morning! (sigh)0 -

OK my bank can't tell me, but those of you with clearing banks where some have been told yes and others no - will this not be because the BACS system gets updated ad various times during the day and ING have sent the payments in manageable batches? Like yesterday we all got our emails at different times - could this be at the same time as the BACS batch we were in left ???
Just yet ANOTHER theory0 -
Nationwide have told me several times that they cannot see anything before it arrives - I don't get it!0
