Kaupthing Edge CHAPS Transfer
Comments
-
I made a transfer from my Kaupthing edge account on 7th October. My account showed this had gone through and my balance as zero. It is now 15th October and this money has still not found it's way into my linked account. I am worried as I cannpt afford to lose this money (hence removing it from Kaupthing when I suspected they were going under!)
My money appears to be floating around between banks. I used BACCS transfer.0 -
I saw Supernanny the other day. It had a pair of 3-year old twins on it that had this disgusting habit of working themselves into such a frenzy when something didn't go exactly the way that they wanted it that they ended up vomiting all over the place. . . it made them look like unpleasant little creatures to be around.
I can't help but think that some of the same behaviour appears to be exhibited later in life for certain individuals, too worried or blinded by the moment to notice that actually things are working themselves out and it will all be alright.
To those who have remained calm and collected throughout this episode so far it appears to be just a couple more days until your level-headedness is vindicated and a lot of people are going to look very stupid about their irrational panic.
I'm not in the habit of throwing insults out at people, but I have just watched this thread grow, horrified at the amount of misinformation about all kinds of unrelated stuff that has been spouted to get to the most absurd conspiracy theories and that frustrations experienced by a handful of people have boiled over into calls to irrational actions such as marching on offices (which aren't even the right ones to be marching on!!) or calling the police because theft is taking place in broad daylight. And many of these suggestions don’t appear to have the whiff of irony about them! This has had somewhat of a spiralling downward effect with others starting to voice their worry. Be opinionated by all means but be factually correct about it!!
I mention a “handful” of people and I know somebody is likely to reply that it's 160,000 people who are affected not a handful, but really, I bet that the majority of those 160,000 are either ignorant of what has happened, or were probably much more rational individuals or just didn't care because actually, there are more things to do with their lives than check on a broken webpage every 3 minutes.
It is also sad that there seems to be very little point in an organisation trying to answer anybody's concerns because even when a new message is officially posted about any progress being made, within seconds somebody has already disregarded it.
I have to say that I think there is a lot of the worst kind of behaviour having been exhibited here. . . slap on the wrists to all of you perpetrators!
I have done my parenting bit now. Feel free to bite back on Friday if there are no transactions - not that it's going to help anybody's cause and it'll just be water off my back!
Having said all of that, in a strange way it has been kind of like watching car crash TV, horrific yes, but rather compelling!
Easy for you to come on now there's a definite date for payments!!
Don't recall you giving us your views till now........if you had such confidence that all was going through so smoothly, why didn't you come on before to put people's minds at rest?
Up until a few hours ago ,NO-ONE outside (and probably not many inside)of ING/KE had a clue what was going to happen......well apart from you presumably.0 -
Just had a lovely thought. I imagine we will all be very pleased when our money turns up friday, if and when the chaps are refunded perhaps we should consider giving the £20 to a charity. Would be good for something nice to come out of this.0

I was thinking about a CHAPS refund too... however, I think the fairest solution will be for ING to pay us interest up to the day the money lands in our target accounts... this is after all what normally happens with a CHAPS same day transfer (done before the cut off)
Yes - this thread is well addictive !0 -

That's a lovely thought. It would be good to end on a positive note. I'll second that!
Just giving it a bit more thought, how about donations to a charity that deals with real poverty, such as the homeless?somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

That's a high horse you're on there...
I for one was/still am slightly a panicker and proud of it. It's only human to be very scared about something you've worked very hard to achieve and which seems to be at risk.

UPDATE: TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER
PAYMENT UPDATE
ING Direct is continuing to work through the backlog of payments and can also confirm that customers will not lose interest because of this delay.
FIXED TERM PRODUCTS UPDATE
Those customers with deposits in a Fixed Term Savings product can be assured that these rates will be honoured by ING Direct.
We are fully committed to returning services to normal as quickly as possible and we will continue to keep you updated, via this page, on further progress.

Have you read the rest of this thread? THere are hundreds of us in the same boat as you... I used CHAPS on the 7-10 and still haven't seen my money!
Read through a few pages and you'll hopefully catch up to the current rumours and possible situation to maybe seeing your money by Friday...
There is a poll here showing how many people, and how much is missing http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=12114210 -
I too am satisfied with how ING have handled this... and i have 35k in the ether. It must have been a horrendous job to sort it all out, and because its financial... high accuracy needs to be achieved.
I also sympathise for people who are desperate for their cash, this situation must have been many times worse for them, then me
I would be happy for my CHAPS transfer to be cancelled and the cash stay in ING, with an uninterrupted interest payment, but it doesnt sound like that will happen.
Meglomaniac - I have also got my other cash in Egg fixed & B&B... just opened up an AA account (backed by HBOS 6.4% no strings). I may even transfer some of my KE back to ING for now...if it arrives on Friday :undecided
what makes you think your money will arrive on friday?0 -
Can i ask how many people who have fixed term deposits with kaup now ING will keep there deposits ongoing after all this "waiting" for monies is resolved"
My issue is that my isa with icesave had to be guaranteed by uk as iceland had no money in there compensation scheme (as the reason the uk has frozen there uk assets) My worry is could the Dutch compensation scheme encounter the same problem0
