Does anyone know what time the banking system closes for the weekend - if we haven't received our money by then I guess we'll have to wait til next week....

I have an HSBC current account which I am looking online at regularly. I have always found, in the past, that transactions only show up at the start of each day, or maybe very late in the evening. What I am asking is, does anyone else have HSBC and would a BACS/CHAPS show up instantly or will I have to wait until Monday now?

I was told today by HSBC that they are updated all day and to check any time by phone, up until closing time at 10pm. Mind you, I am generally speaking to someone in India or somewhere so not sure how that works.

I bank with HSBC too - I just hope my money gets in today as I need it to pay the builder....

requested BACS transfer by phone on Sunday 5th, showed as leaving account tuesday 7th and just received in linked account in last hour. Phew!

I've noticed the same as you before, but generally only with BACS payments. CHAPS payments normally show up as and when they arrive in the account - I know this from taking payment for a car before letting the purchaser take it away.

From some of the posts above it looks like ING are doing CHAPS payments regardless of which type you requested.

I am with HSBC and my money turned up at about 1.45 while I was on the phone to the adviser there.

So it would appear payments in (whether requested as BACs or not) are trickling in all through the day like CHAPS transfers.

You're joking??! I was trying to think earlier about the sorts of businesses and industries that would benefit from the credit crunch - I have to say that home safe manufacturers didn't feature on my list!
