Getting a council house! is it possible anymore?

I do agree with this point from the OP.Grimbo_Green wrote: »It's not fair because his brother and girlfriend between them earn £55k per year so they could easily afford a mortgage or to rent privately.
I really think the council need to review their tenents every few years and keep the houses for people in more need.
My Brother and Sister in law got a Housing association place when the kids were young and my sister in law was at home looking after them, and he was in and out of work. Now a few years on they are both in work earning fairly decent money, probably a combined wage of almost £40k yet they still get to live in a 3 bed semi for £300 a month, surely cases should be reviewed every few years and they are asked to either move or pay going market rents for the property.Making money online in 2009 to date earnt:

What a load of ill-informed, illiterate rubbish.
I did write a riposte to this, which turned into a history lesson about the English race, but it disappeared into the ether. The main point is: we are not all 'imergants' (sic). Read some history, and inform yourself of what you're talking about before demonstrating your ignorance in public for the world to see.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

He said how his mum struggled and they didnt have a bathroom etc, etc well does that mean she shouldn't have had you then? and i'm sure if she were given the chance of a council house she would have jumped at the chance? where's the crime in that?
That was me and I'm not a 'bloke'
I think you are also missed my point somewhat.
My Mother had me, despite having no money, because she had no intention of asking for financial help from others. She knew she could cope herself...and she did. We just didn't have the things others think are their 'right' these days....televisions, cars, holidays, new clothes every month etc. Would she have had a council house if given the chance then? NO! She could have had a council house but she didn't consider herself in need of one and didn't believe it would help her in the long run. Instead she scratched a living to pay a mortgage on a cottage with NO central heating, bathroom, double glazing, damp-roof or anything else you'd consider 'normal'. After 5-6 years she was able to sell that old cottage for a profit and our lives became better. The house we rent currently is extremely damp but our landlord doesnt do anything about it other than to tell us to keep the windows open which we wont do as we have a young baby.
Why don't you move? You're in private rented accommodation you can give a month's notice on most standard tenancy agreements and move on - there's plenty of rental properties out there! Seriously, I'm struggling to understand why you'd stay in that situation when you don't have to - especially for the rent you're paying!I work for our county council on the education dept but I dont know if this is considered a key worker or not?
I certainly hope it isn't! You public sector workers get enough breaks as it is with your generous holiday allowances and pensions
Groceries: 200
Like I said, you can get that down - a lot. Here's my menu plan for October with shopping list and you can see that each day has a proper meal and the whole lot cost me less than £40 for the month for two people. Even if you bought the pulses, lentils and what-not I already had in my storecupboard you'd come in less than £60 for the month. I'm doing this because I want to overpay on my mortgage. The old-style moneysavers board has lots of ideas on simple ways you can cut back and save money. At the end of the day who wants to spend their whole lives working hard for nothing? we all want easier lives hence why you are on this website in the first place so why the hell are some of you getting hernia's over my question??
You don't seem to be understanding a basic fact. Working hard does not necessarily equate to 'doing well' - if it did, labourers would earn as much as Doctors and they clearly don't. If you want life to get easier you need to acquire skills or qualifications which put you into an ever decreasing pool of applicants for any given job. Getting more skills or qualifications (either you, your b/f or both) has been mentioned a number of times in this thread but, seemingly, you've yet to give this any consideration or say why it's not an option for you. If you are only working part-time you are in an enviable position to do home studyand better your position!Yes so what I admit that I do find it annoying when I watch shows like jeremy kyle (lol!!) and there is some chav moaning because he is a drug addict and cant work because of his addiction (as if its an illness) and he is given every benefit going and a council flat
Addiction is an illness...I totally agree if you are homeless then of course you should have priority, what I dont agree with is the people who have never worked a day in their lives, got themselves addicted to heroin, or got sent to prison for being a paedophile then getting housed.
So far you've damned immigrants, old ladies living in houses too big for them, those addicted to substances and 'paedophiles' (not sure about that last one - are you saying that a good chunk of social housing is going to 'paedophiles'?). Now I'm afraid that I tend to believe that vulnerable people have more right to social housing than you do, simply because they may not be able to work! I'd also add that as a single person, vulnerable or not, you have no chance of a council house in my LA - you get put in a rented bedsit!“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”
― Dylan Moran0 -
While there are some people in council houses that really don't need to be there are a hell of a lot of people that are on the list that NEED far more than the OP.
We would all like to have more cash spare at the end of the month but there are a hell of a lot of people worse off than you.
I have a friend with a 6 month old baby, the father walked out when he decided he didn't want to be a daddy and moved abroad, she is staying with her sister now and her and the baby are sharing a room with her niece, the council do not consider her a priority and she is still waiting on the list.
So OP just think yourself lucky that you have a 2 bed house and any money left at the end of the month.Making money online in 2009 to date earnt:

Sadly I think the answer to your question re your stupidity is a resounding "Yes".
And whilst we will all agree that most of us technically are immigrants to this country - council housing, NHS and tax credits werent available when we came, nor had we paid for them to be available.
You told me to go back to Rome (which is now a city in Italy, not a country by the way) and I replied that I was not from Rome so unfortunately wouldnt be offered a pad in the city. The Italians (where Rome is) have recently been rounding up and sending home illegal immigrants because of the explosion of crime including rape and murder by the way. Do you want that to happen in this country if we continue to not set a limit to incomers?
I shant reply to any further postings on here, but the suggestion someone made about evening classes may be a thought for you. May be so you could learn to construct a sentence and learn where the countries of the world are.0 -

Now this part of your post might catch out the hard-of-thinking, but surely illegal immigration occurs regardless of any "limit to incomers"?
So how can setting such a limit prevent illegal immigration?
Your sad excuse for an argument here is straight out of "The Sun Says" - I thought you were more switched-on than that.
Please try harder.Oh come on, don't be silly.

No need to - I dont think nit picking is an argument. You are completely aware what I meant, and if you arent, join the other guy at night school.
I am (slightly) surprised you are a Sun reader - never seen inside it myself.
Off to earn my living now. Byeee0 -

OR there should be enough for everyone.
Private rents are too high and short term tenancies are bad for community cohesion.0 -
