  • hahahahahahahaha this is hilarious. Ive never come accross such self-righteous, know-it-all, do gooders in my whole life! I find this all quite comical now!!
(note to myself never post a thread in the psychotic/renting mortgage section unless you want to spend the next hour getting lectured).
Anyway the main thing is ive annoyed some of you and hopefully ruined your mornings!
    Have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!

What a childish response! You are fit and able, you are both earning, yet you want subsidised housing so you can have more money to spend, and you are angry at the responses you have got?Be grateful for what you have .Time to grow up im afraid.I live in private rented , worked until 6 months ago when my arthritis in my hips caused me to have to give up and claim IS.I have a 9 year old child, and i have to walk him 1.5 miles to school and back each day even though it takes ages and causes me so much pain. I cant afford to drive. But i dont expect anything from anyone, you just have to deal with it.I went to shelter for advice about moving to an area near my grown up kids soi can get support from them, it did not cross my mind to ask for social housing, and indeed i would not be entitled according to my case worker at shelter. You are young, you have your health, move to somewhere cheaper or take a closer look at your finances, thats all i can suggest, social housing is for those in need, not for people to free upmore of their income to spend on themselves.

...you've certainly not annoyed me. I deal with belligerent teenagers for a living ;)

But as you're obviously at home and a little short of things to do, this link may help: Learn Direct

You're just getting boring now - can't you go and scrub out your dirty cupboards or something?
Oh come on, don't be silly.

    It's the internet
    - it's not real!

  • I think some of you are being extremly rude to me? You dont know me, how dare you call me a bad parent or thick or lazy. I dont think my question warrants the amont of anger ive had directed at me. Bloody hell there are far worse things to get mad about!
I am obviously the devils spawn for wanting a better life for my family. What an evil person I am to have the audacity to think about telling a lie.
Lets hope some of you dont loose your homes, then go to the council asking for their help to be told you stand no chance whatsoever, lets hope you dont consider lying :eek:to get anywhere. No of course you wouldnt because you are so perfect.:T

Do you really think people are getting angry? I'm certainly not--just trying to help, and wondering why think you're entitled to be subsidised from the taxes of people who earn similar or less than you? (How do you think council house rents are so cheap?) Oh and enjoying the beautiful weather!!!

Surely every man and his dog knows that there are no council houses unless you have great need, (i.e. disabled, have a disabled child who damages rental properties, come from a really abusive background, etc.). So why is this such an issue for you? Are you reluctant to leave your baby? Worried how you'll manage practically? Depressed? Jealous of your brother-in-law perhaps.

Good luck to you, but please don't lie. Regulations are tighter these days and you don't need to have fraud allegations to defend! Then you really would have problems.

You are probably not aware that there are towns in East Anglia where a large proportion are Portugese. There have been a number of riots in those areas. There are even shops/cafes with notices saying "NO English allowed" LOL. So not sure who are the racists in that situation.

If you have proof that this is happening and can identify those shops/cafes then here's an organisation that would love to hear about it.

I am not sure why the OP thinks that council properties are 'so cheap' - I didn't think they were any cheaper than any other rented property! I would agree about being 'secure' - they're probably the most secure of secure tenancy, given that you pay your rent and don't indulge in antisocial behaviour.

The OP asks how people have got a council property. I only know about my eldest GD. She was homeless following the breakdown of a gay relationship, she was unemployed and was sleeping on her uncle's sofa in his 1-bed council flat and acting as his unpaid carer. This meant they were both considered 'vulnerable'. She was offered a 1-bed flat in a 30-year old block which needed considerable updating.

After moving in, she got a job, then a year later she got the job of her dreams, a youth worker with the same LA. She thinks she's in heaven because she gets paid for doing what she loves, taking kids sailing, canoeing, hiking, planning activities for them to burn up a bit of their energy. Her little flat is her palace, her domain, she's been busy painting it and, having been homeless, she's not about to put it at risk. I had thought of helping her to buy it, but I think she's as well staying just as she is.

Private rented 600, council for the same is 300.
  • This might be worth a thought - rather than 'bending the truth' etc in order to obtain a council house, which you appear to be being criticised for (possibly by people who have bought up the council stock, thus preventing people getting a council house), why not apply for housing benefit? That way you could reduce your rent outgoings per calendar month.

Before anybody out there adds any judgemental threads to this advice - the council won't give Housing Benefit to anybody NOT eligible!

I was in a similar position not long ago, due to being forced out of a job by idiots who couldn't organise their way out of a paper bag. I had worked since leaving school, so am by no means a benefit scrounger!

My husband was on slightly less money than you (single wage), but due to the fact that I had NO wage at all, my child tax credit was increased, and even taking that into account, we were awarded Housing Benefit.

When we entered this tax year, our CTC was increased again - only giving in the figures requested, so all above board again, and I immediately contacted the Housing Benefit office as I felt that we should no longer claim, as we had the same income just in another way.

By the way, I forgot to mention - our rent was a lot less than yours too! So, it's worth a phone call, and filling in a form, isn't it?

Thanks Margaret, only just back - friend of ours took a photo of it in a shop window and I believe so did one of the newspapers. To be honest, Im not bothered at all about it, but the point was there to be made.

Ive had a look at that site - just a bit concerned about who is behind it. Ill check it out later (I am not a racist, I dont vote NF or whatever and never would, but I believe in being fair)

I was one of those on this thread that has offered practical help but also lectured that things are not as bright as people seem to assume on benefits.

Learn Direct is a good idea (as previously posted by someone), I am currently doing an ECDL through them and can fit it around my children, their school times and my care duties. The courses are low cost and they do have very generous opening times.

I did think about asking re housing benefit (or LHA as it is known now), give it a try, you never know.

It is never a good idea to lie about things, you tend to get found out in the end and things are a lot more stringent now than they used to be....and we never lied on our forms at all.

I am not perfect, never have been and yes there are things I wish I had done differently in my life (like staying on at school and getting my A Levels and going to Uni - didn't make a lot of difference in my career until now though) but my ire does tend to come up when someone has a very narrow minded view of certain sections of society (hence my earlier post re benefits).

Further, I am in social housing (housing association) and my rent although cheaper than yours, is not as cheap as some seem to think....mine is closer to the £500 a month.

Having a baby and adjusting to the extra outgoings that brings is hard and is a big shock not only to the system but also to the finances but it does improve once you become more used to things, I well remember the days when my eldest son was a baby when we had more month than money left and he was in desperate need of nappies (we were in our own property at the time) ...hang in there and you won't regret it. You will at least then be able to hold your head up high and not be marked as scum by a good proportion of people because you live in social housing.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    *opens can of worms*

council flats are much cheaper than the private sector, my council rent was around £380 for a 1-bed flat in central London. When I bought the flat under the RTB scheme my mortgage was just £3 a month dearer - but I do now pay almost £90 a month in service charges and contribute to block repairs.
