I didn't think you were complaining.

At 9, though, I cycled to school (about a mile) and that involved crossing the A2 Old Kent Road!

People are much more protective of their children these days though and what was alright a few years ago is probably considered bad form these days.

More cars, more distractions make the roads more dangerous.
  • erm not being stupid (or maybe i am?) but wasnt israel created after the second world war?
(didnt the jews come from (sp) judea - well that would be my guess if i had to say they came from anywhere .. but to be honest my religious knowledge could be written on a stamp) *edit* thinking about it you might be right as i seem to recall something about israelites aswell (though that could be from a song) - religion causes so much good and so much bad i turned my back on all of it years ago

The modern state of Israel was created in the late 1940s.

The Jewish religion and ethnic group comes from the area known now as Israel, plus some bits of other surrounding countries.

Have a quick read of the Old Testament - the crossing of the Red Sea, David, King of Jersusalem, etc.

Or the New Testament, where Christ is born to a Jewish mother in Bethlehem (whcih is just south of Jersusalem).

You told me to go back to Rome (which is now a city in Italy, not a country by the way) and I replied that I was not from Rome so unfortunately wouldnt be offered a pad in the city.

Of course, as an EU national, you do have the right to freedom of movement and freedom of labour in Italy, if you fancy it.

I think a lot of that is parents being too protective.

OR there should be enough for everyone.

Private rents are too high and short term tenancies are bad for community cohesion.

Another alternative would be changes in tenancy laws, to bring them in line with those on the continent. In Germany for example, tenancies are secure unless the property is needed to house the landlord or one of his immediate family. Tenants are also permitted to make 'reasonable' changes to properties, landlord consent is needed but he/she must have a good reason to refuse, same with tenants having pets. Rent is also capped IIRC.
    Anytime;)

The Italians (where Rome is) have recently been rounding up and sending home illegal immigrants because of the explosion of crime including rape and murder by the way. Do you want that to happen in this country if we continue to not set a limit to incomers?

i assume you have made a terrible mistake by assuming all immigrants are 'illegal'?

asking someone to refer to the bible in order to leanr of fact, is like asking someone to read Pinky and Perky annuals to determine facts about the 1960s and 1970s. the bible is mostly made-up nonsense (especially the Old testament), originally created to control the masses. but that's a whole other debate...mind you, we have covered just about everything in this thread haven't we?

You lot are undermining my earnings here but: :)

Nope, not an awful mistake, it was not related to my previous posts, but an extra bit of info for the person who believed Jews came from Rome. So petty nit picking which is not worthy of a continuing argument.

Secondly - doesnt it show what a wonderful tolerant non racist bunch we true Brits are that none of us are reporting you for insulting our national religion? If you had said that about the Koran in a muslim state, you could have had your life threatened.

    No they are not.
A proportion of Council tenants rent money is pooled and ‘redistributed’. Some councils benefit (especially in London) others lose out. However more money is paid in than is paid out – about £200million this year.

But most council rents are paid by housing benefit not by peoples wages because they are used to house the needy.
Being in London makes no difference in fact I think they get more and more stupid. Anyone read the Sun newspaper yesterday about the Ealing borough council. This happens to be the borough I come under.
