I agree that the shops are doing this, why should people be able to use money off vouchers for something they are not buying?

Sorry to sound like a party pooper but money off certain products should only be used if you are buying those particular products.

Surely the companies reimburse the stores ? ie if you buy Andrex loo rolls and use a airwick voucher, why should airwick pay when its not there product.

The shops actually get the money back plus 1p (or more in some cases)per each voucher accepted, therefore on a large scale shops are making free money for accepting the vouchers. This is certainly the case for hard copy vouchers, not sure if the same for internet ones!

I went into Asda yesterday morning about 11am and there was hardly anyone in the place.
I went through the self scanner with just a couple of items and noticed that the slot for coupons was uncovered.
I asked the girl if coupons could be used and she said the scanner would only accept the coupon if the product was bought and it was the same throughout the whole store.

In contrast the local Lidle store was packed out and also Morrisons.
  • hello all,

just a quick one to say it's 20% off at Oasis with this code oasisfriends 2008.

Another CS girl who doesn't know how the tills work. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Asda tills are not set to recognise if you've bought the product, and their policy is till NOT to allow mocs unless you have bought the right items. But some people will still get away with it while staff don't have a clue, as the tills will scan the usual barcodes as they always did.

  • As per my recent thread, I received an e-mail from Asda on Monday 18th that is a positive MOC policy if anyone wants a copy feel free to PM me for it. I have been spending MOCs in my asda for the past two weeks with no problems.

With regards to the tesco v asda debate. Whilst I appreciate that clubcard points are valuable I live very much hand to mouth and my weekly shopping is at least £30 less if I shop in Asda over Tesco. I think it depends on what you buy as to which store suits you best. I can never find what I want in tesco and the shelves are always being filled up so you can never get down the aisles. For some reason the lighting seems to cause my little boy to stare at the ceiling and arch his back out of the trolley in Tescos too which drives me nuts LOL!
  • I think the coupon policy varies from shop to shop. one week they clamp down, the next week they take everything. if i cant use one week i just go back the next week with them. i just wish you knew in advance cos i would buy more stuff if i knew the coupons would all be took with no hassell.
    Just about to give up!

Email received today (Friday 19th Dec)
    Thanks for your email.

Our policy on coupons has now changed, you can use as many coupons as you like as long a you have bought the specific products that match the coupons.

Once again, thanks for your email and If I can be of any further help, please let me know.

    Yours sincerely

Could you please tell me what the current ASDA policy is for using money off coupons if you don't buy the product on the coupon.

Up to October in my local Stockport branch of ASDA ,I was able to use money off coupons up to
10% of my total bill even if I didn't buy the product, but as long as you stocked the product but this was stopped .

I have read on a website that you have now changed your policy again (http://www.bargainspy.co.uk/node/142831)

Could you let me know what the policy is now and how many ,and to what value (if any)I can use money off coupons

    Many thanks

The trouble is, you are living on borrowed time as regards using coupons at Asda, as the email you got was wrong. Sooner or later someone at your local store will say no (rightly) and even with an email in hand you may find they insist the policy has changed (which it has).

Just wanting to warn you that you will be told this soon in your Asda, unless they haven't read the policy change. Whoever wrote that email reply to you must have been on their hols when the policy changed last month!

That's why most posters on here who use coupons suggest Tesco. They haven't changed their policy and - as long as your local store are OK with the policy - then you are currently fine in Tesco with a batch of all-different NSS mocs.

I'm not saying Tesco are better, I really don't think they are, lol! They are just the only place where you can pay a fair amount in coupons as long as they are all different. Waitrose often have more of a restriction, locally to me they only accept any 3 coupons per transaction.

My local ASDA were taking coupons today.

I don`t really think they`ve got a nationwide policy because even their CS comes up with different answers about exactly what the policy is.
It`s basically pot luck depending who you get at the till and what side of the bed they got out.
    Like ms alared says
if they don`t take them this time they will the next.
