Asda stopping coupon use

Tesco & Asda had a stated policy to allow coupon-use WITHOUT buying the product. Customers then offer these as a method of payment fully acceptable to these stores (Tesco still allow it at the mo). Where is the abuse in that, from a shopper's point of view? The customer is doing nothing wrong at all in the transaction.
Is that clear enough for you or do you still think that cash-strapped coupon-users like myself and chipbeck are abusing poor Tesco when we hand over our coupons in a store where we know for a fact that they allow it?
Does somebody leaving their front door open mean it's OK for you to enter their house? Do the manufacturers want their coupons and their money to be used to part pay for competitor products? Where have I claimed you are abusing the supermarkets? Cash strapped or not, it wouldn't excuse theft (and no I'm not accusing anyone of theft before you grab the wrong end of another stick) but read my comments ref manufacturers no longer producing coupons to see why I am concerned about abuse of the system. There is also the whining that "they won't let us do it any more", so what. They won't let you spend Bulgarian Lev in your local supermarket, is that wrong too? (Unless of course you are reading this in Sofia;) )0 -
"Does somebody leaving their front door open mean it's OK for you to enter their house? "
This is just silly! Of course you wouldn't enter someones house if they left the door open, but you would enter if you were invited!
Same with coupons-you don't use coupons in a supermarket that doesn't accept them? It really is simple to understand. Supermarkets have a policy with coupons and you stick to that policy> How is that wrong? It costs nothing to be nice...:)

No, these people are just going to take their ball (and their custom) to Tesco I suspect, why not?
And manufacturers are still producing coupons in great numbers, even those firms where some mocs have previously been very well-used by couponers (one example would be Uncle Bens, who have produced coupons fairly recently yet again even after huge use - and sales on ebay - of their previous ones last year).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Surely it's been proved countless times that the debate on coupon-use goes absolutely nowhere and just causes arguments.
And we all now know that ASDA no longer accept coupons unless you've bought the product. There's not really much more to say about it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Except one more thing perhaps: ...I'm sure that there are many suppliers to all these shops (all store chains/sizes) who are struggling to pay their own bills and stay afloat, it is probably damn right that all the supermarkets review what they have apparently allowed in the past. Like many have said here, it may have been good while it lasted but they are actually doing the right thing and other shops should really do the same to do right by all their suppliers and the people that work there in those suppliers. Sometimes money saving is better when it is ethically right, no?
(And I know the argument that they apparently allowed it in the past etc, but past performance should not be a guarantee of future performance should it - just because a policy was unclear before doesn't mean it should not be reviewed and clarified)
ASDA are doing the right thing for the longevity of the business at a difficult time in some parts of the industry. The ASDA people are proud of their low prices (...Always, pocket tap etc) and this will only remove administration of coupons and help drive efficiencies which supports lower costs and therefore more ability for them to lower prices for everyone (without people having to cut or print coupons).
Well done ASDA :T

They try that with me and there's £100+ shopping, then I'd tell them either accept them or you can put all the shopping back on the shelf yourself. I take no crap from anyone.
Because they would not ignore their employer's instructions or because they would not be complicit in the fraudulent use of the manufacturer's coupon outside the terms and conditions of use printed on them? Seems a bit harsh on the hourly paid staff in the store...
Everyone has bad days at work, and there's no excuse for rudeness to a customer at all; but in general I find that a smile at a shop worker ensures a good service experience, even an explanation of why they cannot accept a coupon from me has been given with good grace in such circumstances.
Maybe I mis-read your post BexTech, excuse my reply coming in at the wrong angle if there was more to it than it seemed

The only thing that ASDA will understand is people voting with their feet.
Mrs A after using the local Asda for 20 odd years has now switched to Tesco, who take "anything you throw at them".0 -

That would make Mr T complicit in fraud :rotfl: ... that's what they are doing if they take them. Mrs A is also breaking the terms of the coupon - it is fraud against the supplier of the coupon.
Low prices is what we ALL want and we want them ALL of the time. Coupons and things like "25% free" are really something we have already paid for aren't they? It means we were charged more than we should have been before the offer was live. Who pays for the printing, the advert costs and the handling of them in the store and the verification later so the suppliers are happy that they get paid the right amounts? We all pay
I wish I lived nearer an ASDA because they seem to have the right attitude with the "Always low price" approach (especially now with energy bills being what they are)
Anyone who has seen some of my posts here will know what I think about the importance of recognising customers have a right to privacy. Mr T shops with their loyalty card is hardly respectful of privacy (and it must cost them a fortune to run the scheme and who pays for that?)
Don;t get me wrong... I'm happy to take advantage of a good discount but without fraud/within the law is where I am on it :A
Not that I am actually an angel of any kind at all
