Another Tesco Massive Price Increase

With the news today of worsening recession will it lower prices? I doubt it very much. With businesses closing and the likelihood of many more on the way, we are only going to be left with the big players, in other words Tesco etc. All the smaller guys will be wiped out living very little choice, that means they have full control of prices and as we see now, they dont give a damn because very soon there will be little shopping choice.
If inflation goes negative people tend to withhold spending because it will be cheaper the following week / month. I wonder if that means that if such a scenario is likely they up the prices to keep up their cash reserves before such a problem comes about.
If more people are unemployed and can't afford to keep a car that they need to get to the supermarket - what happens then? Is this going to be a wake up call to the out of town supermarket model? Or will they reduce their delivery prices or minimum purchase thresholds?0 -
Its all very well comparing Human basic food prices, but supermarkets especially Tesco and Sainsbury are ripping off people on pet food. Last september 400g of Whiskas was 48p, by Christmas 50p, last week (12/01/09) 51p, by 20/01/09 it was 53p, NOW IT IS 62p. How can this be justified is such a short space of time. Furthermore a 12 pack of own brand dog food was £3.63 it now over £5 for 12. Bird food is also very much over priced. Its cheaper to by a value brand of muesli to feed the birds and cheaper to by british beef mince to feed the fox0

just enter the word cucumber and do the search
I checked several products that I buy regularly and compared the prices currently on tesco.com (the comparison prices were taken on 12th January)...unsurprisingly most of the things I buy have gone up loads. E.g. Benecol spread used to be £3, it's went up to £3.80 something and Tesco are now doing "an offer" saying it's discounted by 50p or something...fake discounts...
The link just took me through to a pricewatch comparison page with Ocado - I think I'll have to check out Waitrose soon - seems they are not as expensive as Tesco would like us to believe, and cheaper on many things!0 -

Can totally agree with you on this: one of many price differences I have found are with the highlights hotchocolate double sachets , in waitrose its 36p in tescos its 45p.0 -

In the coming year, hopefully people will become more aware of how much money they are spending/wasting, but the likes of Tesco will still rip people off, because there often isnt an alternative for the customer.
The other problem is some people pass of these increases like "bah it only 15p its not worth going elsewhere to save that much", but that 15p, spread across 100 items can be £15.00!!
And of course, the real root of the problem, is they put staple foods up as much as they like, we have but no choice to purchase these, so they basically have you backed in a corner, with the amount of price fixing going on in UK supermarkets, there is very few places to get the staples cheaper!0 -
Geniep99 why in heaven's name would you want to feed a fox????0

i commented a couple of weeks ago how their swiss style muesli (not the value kind) had increased from 79p to £149 within 1 week
another person mentioned about their value muesli so i decided to go for that instead as it was priced at 49p - so i have been having that for the past couple of weeks and you cant taste the difference - now seen in tesco that it has gone up to 99p
the really naff thing i find is that within one day an item can go up by 100% in price and then 2 days later it comes back down to the original price that it was.
called tescos and they are goiing to look into the huge price increases and provide me with their explanations0 -
I regularly buy Tesco's Cucumber portion, so have noticed the increase from 39p about 2 months ago, now it's up to 64p!
Do the supermarkets think we don't notice? It's plain obvious if people buy the same items on regular basis.2017 - no clutter to be seen challenge: 72/2017
Weight loss the old style way challenge - 7/14lbs :j0
