  • Retail dictatorship is on the way. No real competition, no real choice, a factual oligopoly and no escape.

I must say that i am a little surprised Martin Lewis hasnt approached this subject because it is a very big subject and the signs are that its getting worse week by week.

The only way for Tesco to take notice is to stop shopping with them! They have had poor sales over Christmas and profits won't be as big as they hoped so someone has to pay, and it's you guys! We are reaping what has been sowed, and Tesco has got far too big and powerful. They do what they like and the drones still shop with them. I hate tesco with a passion by the way!

We still have to do a weeks shop. Not everyone can afford local stores/markets or to shop around, and supermarkets are all much of a muchness.
To insult people by calling them drones is not helpful and certainly not nice.

chopped tomatoes have now gone up to 38p!!

Saw that today! Up from 33p which was up from 21p only 2 months back. So thats an 80% increase in 2 months!!!!!!

Value drinking choc up from 54p to 59p

Strong white bread flour down from 75p to 68p but it only went up to 68p from 48p a month ago!
  • Omega 3 30 tablets were £2.48 now £3.90 !

Our local Lidl seems to be price matching Tesco - their jam is now 99p as well.

And they say inflation is down...

I think as has been discussed here myself and others would not want to cut Tesco out comletely. I'd like to see untold continuous publicity (are you listening Martin Lewis thanks Keith99 post #474)) show Tesco and the other supermarkets to be cynical racketeers.
  • Yeah - I noticed that the cucumber was sooooo expensive that I didn't buy it. Funnily enough the Tesco price check shows it more expensive than the comparisons even with the old £1 price!!! LOL

just enter the word cucumber and do the search :)

I checked several products that I buy regularly and compared the prices currently on tesco.com (the comparison prices were taken on 12th January)...unsurprisingly most of the things I buy have gone up loads. E.g. Benecol spread used to be £3, it's went up to £3.80 something and Tesco are now doing "an offer" saying it's discounted by 50p or something...fake discounts...

I've never bothered before, but now I'm going to start carrying around a notebook with the prices/locations of the things I buy most in it. The prices are changing upwards so fast that there are too many to carry in my head. We are feeding 4+ feral cats and the cat food increase from £7 odd to £9 odd in Asda for 24 tins has bust my budget.
I bought some cat biscuits for £1 a kilo in Poundland and amazingly my fussy house cat is eating them. Wilkinsons have Go cat at 38p a tin and fussy cat will eat that although his previous owners fed him on pricey sachets.
I console myself by saying " it's not as bad as Zimbabwe, yet".

Sorry to take this off topic but it might work out cheaper to go for raw feeding, you know.
