Another Tesco Massive Price Increase
Comments

Last week Polo's Multipack cost 95p. Now - £1.49. Another small increase by Tesco's! Almost 60%
Looks like I'm off to Aldi tomorrow. I've been told that they're cheaper and their fresh food is better quality.0 -

This sort of price increase is just inexcusable.0 -
It depends on what competition there is. They will all price to what the area will bear.
We were a Tesco only town untill Morrisons came and then you saw Tesco prices come down.
But the reason Tesco don't give a damn, is because the people around here are so brain dead, there is always MASSIVE queue's for Tesco petrol station (despite it being off the main road) and the Shell is always relatively quiet (despite it being located on the main road).
So where is the point in Tesco reducing the price, when the masses are happy to pay whatever they charge, regardless of the competition.
We really do need a Morrisons or Asda petrol station around here, so Tesco can have some competition they might just take notice of. They seem not to be interested in the local BP's and Shell's, and the nearest supermarket fuel station is a Sainsburys about 5 miles away, who have a large Shell located literally next door to them, but always price their fuel higher for a few days after the Shell has dropped the price, again, people still seem to be happy to go to the Sainsburys one, even though the Shell is often cheaper and more convenient (on the main road again).
Other than that, the nearest Asda is about 10 miles away and Morrisons is about 16 miles away, and we all know those two usually lead the way when it comes to price cuts in fuel. Although we are supposed to be getting a gigantic Asda opening less than a mile away from the current Tesco Extra in a few years time as part of a massive new multi-billion pound development, so that should give em something to worry about.0 -

Try Home Bargains; I rememeber getting multipacks of polos for less than 95p even. I think it was 79p for a 5-pack.0 -

Okay,
so am just online now doing my monthly shop and stocked up so much a few months ago I didn't have to do one for a while. But anyways, I pulled out a shopping list from about 4 months ago with the prices below on one of the specific items that I have now noticed have been hiked up by huge amounts  - this is ridiculous- can they justify this?Especially in todays economy??? Surely they are not paying any attention to the "deflation" signs and they are simply contributed to a huge downspiral in the economy by increasing their prices- I am not a happy bunny:mad: ! Am going to write to Tesco and make a formal complaint as I am sure there must be something some where that says they have to only increase their prices reasonably not by huge amounts.
My opinion is that they have noticed every one going down a brand and have decided to hike the prices up to make up the difference! Rip offs!
Tesco Value Frozen Lamb Chops were £2.49 1kg bag NOW £3.49!!!
Surely someone must be able to stop the supermarkets doing this??? On closer inspection they have been doing this accross the board on all their Tesco Value products. I down branded to save money- not to spend more!!!
I think Martin should back us on this one and get mentioning it on his next appearances!!! We need to stand together and ask why the supermarkets are doing this!!!Debt free, smiling and proud - it's been a long @$$ road!
If you're going through it, know that you got this! Believe in the process and you can do anything you put your mind to!I've got this, I can do this, I believe in me! xXx0 -

Quite obviously supermarkets have counter-acted their customers' downbranding by raising the prices of their value lines, re-branding (Tesco "Discount") or eliminating value lines completely. I think we can take that for a fact.
Who would be able to stop the supermarkets doing this? According to all the classical economic theories, that would be the customer voting with his feet. But alas, the poor guy can run, but he can't hide. And that is because everybody else has followed the market leader Tesco in his tracks and done precisely the same. So what we find is a classical oligopolist situation that does smell somewhat of cartel, but isn't. The system works on its own, without any arranged co-ordination being necessary at all. Tesco leads the way; the rest of the pack just follows.
For the customer, this means there is nowhere left to go. Simple as that.0 -
With the news today of worsening recession will it lower prices? I doubt it very much. With businesses closing and the likelihood of many more on the way, we are only going to be left with the big players, in other words Tesco etc. All the smaller guys will be wiped out living very little choice, that means they have full control of prices and as we see now, they dont give a damn because very soon there will be little shopping choice.0
