  • For those who have been posting on this thread for a while: are these prices changing a lot more these days? Is there an increasing difference between imported and exported prices for fresh stuff for example?

i commented a couple of weeks ago how their swiss style muesli (not the value kind) had increased from 79p to £149 within 1 week

another person mentioned about their value muesli so i decided to go for that instead as it was priced at 49p - so i have been having that for the past couple of weeks and you cant taste the difference - now seen in tesco that it has gone up to 99p

the really naff thing i find is that within one day an item can go up by 100% in price and then 2 days later it comes back down to the original price that it was.

called tescos and they are goiing to look into the huge price increases and provide me with their explanations

Sure it doesn't come with a holiday? :rotfl:

Yes changes all the time. Place order for home delivery on Wednesday afternoon, goods arrive Thursday lunchtime price increased by app 5%. If you check weekly when placing order some prices have always changed then drop back down again before rising the next week.

I regularly buy Tesco's Cucumber portion, so have noticed the increase from 39p about 2 months ago, now it's up to 64p!

Do the supermarkets think we don't notice? It's plain obvious if people buy the same items on regular basis.

I noticed the price increase in my local Tesco too, but I assumed it was a seasonal price change because cucumbers are harder to come by in January. I hope the prices don't stay at that level or I'll have to stop buying cucumbers :(

I now only go to Mr T once a month, as I have defected to Aldi for the other weeks - went in yesterday and could not believe some of their prices, they are having a laugh - the french white wine box has gone up by a pound, and a six pack of polo mints, which was 99p four weeks ago is now £1.49 - inexcusable profiteering

    ain't that the truth

I've stopped shopping there completely now as there was far too many huge and unjustified price increases in a short space of time. I guess I'm not alone judging by the comments on here.

Its all very well comparing Human basic food prices, but supermarkets especially Tesco and Sainsbury are ripping off people on pet food. Last september 400g of Whiskas was 48p, by Christmas 50p, last week (12/01/09) 51p, by 20/01/09 it was 53p, NOW IT IS 62p. How can this be justified is such a short space of time. Furthermore a 12 pack of own brand dog food was £3.63 it now over £5 for 12. Bird food is also very much over priced. Its cheaper to by a value brand of muesli to feed the birds and cheaper to by british beef mince to feed the fox

I buy the 6 pack cans of Tesco own brand cat food in jelly - before Christmas it was £1.88, this week £2.75. I'm slowly cutting down the amount my two get and increasing the amount of dry food instead, its much more economical.

I'm feeding 4 ferals and 1 ex stray housecat and a few others and the cat food prices are scaring me. Wilkinsons are doing Go cat for 37p a tin and although there's no handy place to park it's worth lugging the tins up the town. I switched my main shop from Tesco to Asda but their cat food has gone up by £2 on 24 tins in recent weeks.
I've never had a satisfactory reply from Tesco as to why sunflower seeds went up from 45p to £2.96 overnight even though market data found by googling shows no drastic increase in price at the wholesale market for 2008.
