I've never had a satisfactory reply from Tesco as to why sunflower seeds went up from 45p to £2.96 overnight even though market data found by googling shows no drastic increase in price at the wholesale market for 2008.

Why don't you ask head honcho Sir Terry if he can put his staff on the case and perhaps give you a satisfactory and truthful explanation

Somehow I don't think a reply admitting that they are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes will be forthcoming. So no chance of a satisfactory or truthful answer I'm afraid.
  • Of course not, but the bovine defecation they come up with may have some entertainment value.

Don't shop in Tesco now....much prefer my local Sainsbury's. Better customer services for sure however the food is dearer....

...go one step futher and ditch the big supermarkets if you can.

After the cucumber fiasco in Tesco, I popped in to Iceland on Sunday - somehow Iceland still manages to sell cucumber for £1 each...so even if Tesco were to claim that the currency rate to purchase Spanish cucumbers is causing the rate, it doesn't seem to apply to other shops.

I think I will buy some of the basic stuff from Iceland from now on - their delivery is FREE when you spend more than £25. I know that my local Iceland is quite small, but I can always get my juice, milk, lager and other heavy stuff and get the boys to do the work :p They have also lauched a new bonus card with monthly price draws...way to go Iceland!!! :T
  • Hit and miss but one of my local shops does cucumbers for a £1 and peppers for 50p.

Well to those of you that are as worked up and against Tesco as i am I am officially reducing my shopping there- okay let' sbe reasonable I cannot cut it out entirely as some stuff is alot cheaper.

*My veg is now from the local greengrocers- alot cheaper on local produce

*Canned foods- beans / tinned toms etc and loo roll (decent stuff not sandpaper) is from Farmfoods. And some frozen meat is cheap here too. Bread- kingsmill 2 for £1.50 on 800g loaf / including toastie. Milk is £1 for 2litres on "the one" and normal brands too. Stuffing mixes are only 10p a pack. Heinz beans are 39p a tin!!! Or hp pack of for equate to 31p a tin!!!

*Cleaning products- tesco value only- from Tesco. Also tesco value gravy granules.

    *Netto- ice cream

*Iceland- frozen veg £1 per 1kg bag

I spent 3.5 hours on Saturday shopping around- and no I didn't use any more fuel up as they are all near each other and would have bene going nearby anyways. Time- well that didnt cost me as I had the time.

I say we start now and fight the supermarkets cos I am not standing for this any more!

Here here, i agree we should try and shop around. Actually i started to shop around after the massive price increase (which i refuse to pay) on bread flour!
  • Was amazed at the price of frozen peas in Mr T,s this week!
I too can shop around. I buy pasta and curry sauces, crisps and chocolate from Home Bargains,. Fuit, veg and surprisingly dog treats and dry dog food from my local greengrocers. Beer and Wine from Aldi along with bread , mayonnaise and pasta/rice. It takes a bit more effort but I refuse to pay their prices for basics anymore, may lose a few clubcard points but hey ho I'd rather have the money in my pocket now!

Now why didn't I take any notice of the
