Another Tesco Massive Price Increase

I switched to Asda for store cupboard stuff a few months back (I only buy meat, veg, fish etc from local independent shops) but popped into my local Tesco recently and was speechless at some of the prices - single tins of heinz baked beans were 76p and a tin of heinz ravioli was 99p. Neither are things I buy much at all but felt in the need for some comfort food - needless to say that's my last "popping in" to Tesco - I'll continue to shop elsewhere and use my Tesco Credit Card so they have to give me points for taking my customer elsewhere. They are definitely taking the p*** - at least they are in Cumbernauld!0

i have been shocked at the tesco price increases over the last year. tinned tuna has increase from 88p to £1.39 a tin and raisins have increased from 98p for 1kg to £1.48 then to £1.98 and now to £2.65 ! i have also noticed with both asda and tesco that they have taken off alot of the smart price or value range and not replaced it with another discounted brand and my local tesco has reduced the amounts of other brands available and you are forced to buy their own brands at hugely inflated prices. my oh my its depressing. its as shame as the supermarkets, having driven smaller business out of the market by offering low prices for ages are now increasing theirs and there is no other competition.0

When I was in T's yesterday, I couldn't believe the new price rises. After the horrendous rise from 19p to 38p the value pasta has gone up again - to 41p:mad: .
And we are still being told that Tesco are helping us to spend less:rolleyes:
It's only a game

250 ml Kick energy drinks appear to have gone up from 27p to 44p each.
Sainsburys also did the same to there own 250 ml energy drinks about 6 months ago.0 -
Has tuna gone up in price everywhere? I was in Morrisons this morning and there were no small tins of own-brand tuna and no value tuna just branded tins or large tins of their own brand. I normally keep a few tins in the cupboard as a staple but the prices and availability have gone daft!Dum Spiro Spero0

I notced the price increase on Tuna too - I have to keep it in as my five year old will readily eat it so anything healthy like that is a must!
The one thing I would like to see in a discount range is Non-bio washing powder - but they only have bio varieties, forcing me to pay more for the standard brand or more expensive brands. I have no idea if the discount stuff itself would be any good but it would be nice to have the option.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Spotted today in the Cradley Heath Tesco Extra: 300g Sunflower Seeds - usually 60p-odd, now the shelf label reads (pound sign) 2.96. Tried scanning it in adjacent price-checker, but this wasn't working.
It could be a mistake - but I wonder how much it's an attempt to gauge how many people carry on buying regardless.0 -
The original excuses for the vast food price rises were the high fuel costs and the increasing prosperity of the Indians and the Chinese who could afford to eat more hence growing demands on staple foods.
With the global downturn and reduced fuel prices I wonder what the supermarkets will conjure up to explain how they are not reducing back to where we were 12 months ago.
I fully acknowledge that prices had to go up but not the amount they rocketed up to. The consumers must take partial responsibility as well since far too many are willing to put up with it and keep buying regardless. Maybe now that people have less money in their pocket they will wake up and smell the coffee(at a probably vastly inflated price) but I doubt it.0 -
Tesco marmalade - was 44p, now 75p!
And I agree about the tuna prices too - HUGE increases over the last few months!2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I went to buy an iceburg lettuce at my local tesco express yesterday and was shocked to see it was £1.03. I put it back! Not only that it was a hell of a lot smaller than they normally are too. Thanks to all posters and contributers :beer:0
