Brightonman, there is a greengrocer near me where I cn get a crate of cherry tomatoes for like £1. I much prefer those prices!!0

last weeks shopping bill stated
Tesco value 4 pork pies £0.89
same pies this week £0.99,12 pack value ready salted crisps £0.44,this week £0.55
lots of other prices i noticed had crept up but stood my ground and refused to buy.I know it doesn't sound a lot but given the amount of customers mr.t has he 's still making a massive profit, obviously he doesn't believe we are in a credit crunch!!!!!!0 -
Has anyone else noticed the discounter brand launched not so long ago with a big hullabulloo has started to disappear,
I tried the "market value" round tomatoes 49p no longer available
"market value" green apples 75p no longer available,
"market value" salad 49p went up to 99p now no longer available....0 -

Not sure about the other general and quite random price increases Tesco have done, but this might explain the tuna

It does absolutely make sense from a business point of view. Although their value lines were in most cases noticeably cheaper than the corresponding Aldi or Lidl products, there can't possibly have been much of a margin on them. For they have only just begun to see those as serious competitors. Why don't they simply undercut them? No way. Way too easy. We can do better than that!
Not a bad strategy at all, is it? Increasing margins (= prices) on the one hand while blowing the horn of "cheap as Aldi" on the other. Master strike. Looks like someone's really done their marketing homework.
But alas, it's more see-through than they think.
Has anyone tried the discounter brands? I've had the ketchup and chips and both were horrid to the point of being virtually inedible - and I use some Value things quite happily. Even DS - who will eat any rubbish - asked me not to buy them again!0 -

I have tried the ketchup, which I thought was nice, but I agree that the chips are vile!
I have also tried the washing up liquid, that's pretty good but the bubbles don't last long.

Tesco's own brand Cat Pounches prices are up and down like a flipping yoyo, literally.
£2.28 for 12 pounches one day, following day .. £2.18 for one variety, £2.35 for another and £2.28 for the other two. It was £1.98 a few weeks ago.0 -

I really hope they don't do this- I genuinly like the aesthetics of the value ranges- the packes and simple images look really chic!!
To add to the list, Figs, pack of 4, were £1.74, now £1.99. Price went down then back up...
Sainsburys it is then!0
