Another Tesco Massive Price Increase

Tesco's own brand Cat Pounches prices are up and down like a flipping yoyo, literally.
£2.28 for 12 pounches one day, following day .. £2.18 for one variety, £2.35 for another and £2.28 for the other two. It was £1.98 a few weeks ago.
My advice to any serious money saver would be not to buy cat food in pouches, full stop. Look at the price per kilo in small print on the shelf (which they have to display by law) - pouches cost 250% to 300% of the price of the equivalent food in tins. To put that in perspective it's like paying £1.30-£1.60 for one tin of cat food!
Even when pouches are on special offer they're still more than double the price of the tinned equivalent, but of course their marketing tricks make it look like an amazing bargain.0 -

Money is tight and I'd rather spend it on other things than making my cupboard look pretty with Heinz logos instead of no frills ones. That's just vain and silly.
Hi
Dont know if this is of any help to you as i only drink normal coke but the coke they sell in Lidl's for around 40p a bottle is the only cheap price coke that i can drink and i find nearly as good as the real thing i would suggest you give it a try you may like it and its a lot cheaper.0 -

Lidl also always have 2Ltr Diet Pepsi on a permanent 3 for 2 - it used to be a BOGOF, so even Lidl have had to put their price up, but it's the best price I can find anywhere!
Hope this helps.
Lidl Ketchup (in squeezy bottle) is just like Heinz too.0 -
Taxiphil - to quote the previous post I just postedThe reason I feed pouches is because it is much easier to give in portions (ie, half to each cat). One cat is old, quite poorly, on tablets twice a day and its rare that I find a cat biscuit she will eat. The other cat is a tubby and on a diet so the half pouch suits him fine. Plus its less waste to go in the bins.
On top of this, the pouches are cheaper than the tins and easier/lighter to carry (which for someone in ill health is a major plus point)0 -
Has anyone tried the discounter brands? I've had the ketchup and chips and both were horrid to the point of being virtually inedible
I tried the ketchup and I found it all right.

On cat food: (apart from fully supporting taxiphil's post on cans vs. pouches)
I noticed that single cans of "chunks in jelly/gravy" are sold at 32p.
A pack of 12, foilwrapped, is £3.96
Now some quick and easy multiplication: 12*32p = £3.84. Ack.
Yay Tesco. :T:T:T Bet hundreds of thousands of cat owners go for the 12-pack, since big packs are necessarily cheaper. The same applies to the 6-packs. How many cats in Britain on a tin per day?0 -
prawn crackers, was 47p, now 70p!!! even cs woman said that was a huge hike, even for them.A happy wife, and mum to 2 lovely little boys :j0

Anyone noticed the Erdinger and Weihenstephan(?) beer prices recently?
I last bought some about 1 month ago for about £1.24 and £1.21 respectively each (I think). I was in Tesco today and popped over to the beer aisle and they are now selling them for about £1.61 each.
That's more than 25% increase!! (I think, can't remember how to work that out....)There is no excuse for rudeness. Ignorance on the other hand is excusable – you don’t know what you’re talking about.0 -
Get the Schöfferhofer from Aldi at currently £1.19.0

I really hope they don't do this- I genuinly like the aesthetics of the value ranges- the packes and simple images look really chic!!
To add to the list, Figs, pack of 4, were £1.74, now £1.99. Price went down then back up...
Sainsburys it is then!
I can assure you that Sainsbury's is just as bad - their prices change every week on many items.
Incidentally always keep an eye out on the price ticket on the shelf edge - usually if the price is about to alter the new price will be underneath turned upside down!
Don't be afraid to pull it out to have a look and check.0 -
Thanks for the tip GentleGiant.
Can't stand Tesco, but it's the main one in my town, so go there sometimes, begrudgingly.0
