Also petrol down 2p a litre. Hang on, werent supermarkets blaming the ever rising oil price for the big rises?
Trouble is Diesel has not come down in price very fast and is now 15p a litre more expensive than petrol, lorries etc run on Diesel, we need Diesel to take a big price cut like on petrol to make a difference.0 -
Higher fuel costs was just an excuse for retailers to push up prices. Now that oil is lower than it has been for ages they will trot out newer excuses to explain why prices are so much higher than when oil was last less than $50 per barrel. Btw the same applies to the utilities.0

Saw on TV last night that Tesco have introduced a new low cost line directly to compete with Aldi and Lidl. The packaging is own label but intentionally similar to well-known brand names. It is also very well priced and compares well with Aldi on it's labels.
It makes good commercial sense that something has to pay for this new line, and that is why they are making big increases in other lines, in addition to withdrawing many of their 'value' range.0 -

I was angry last week when tinned toms went up to 26p, this week they're 33p!!! Tinned salmon has gone from 88p to £1.58. Value bread up from 30p to 35p. Isn't it strange how all the big supermarkets have put their prices up exactly the same and at the same time? Yet we are being told that inflation is down. Where on earth are they looking?

I noticed that the value range had gone up to the same price as the discount range and this week I noticed they'd both soared up to 33p, so I got the discount range which is actually italian tomatoes and much nicer. but still grr. about being more expensive.
Same thing has happened with basic juice. The value chilled juice used to be 58p but the long life juice (in cartons usually near breakfast cereal) was 49p. Now the long life juice is 58p too so i've just switched fresh, but again still costing me more money.
It's like they are forcing me to upgrade my brands when I want to downgrade!!
It's irrelevant to me if Tesco are 'britains biggest discounter' if the calculate that by adding up how many junk food lines they have reduced. I want to buy basic staples and plain unadultered ingredients so I can make my own healthy food. Thank goodness for my veg garden as I can hardly bear to even look at the prices in of a couple of (in season!) leeks!0 -

I've been buying Tesco's dieet soft drink (2 litre bottles - Summer Fruits) for some time now and noticed over the last couple of months the price has been creeping up.
Used to be 42p couple of months ago, last week it was 68p, went in today and it's now 99p!
