    Hi all,

I like most people here took out the card with the sole intention of getting a free Sony MP3 payer / walkman / whatever you call it.

I, again like most, got my first statement, after spending £40.00 on the card, and it only showed 2000 bonus points. I came here and saw the various different things people had tried to rectify this, and it was apparent that (possibly due to this site) Sonycard/MBNA/Pulsebeats had been completely overwhelmed by the response to the offer they originally made.

So I waited a little while,a weeks or so, checked online and saw that my account still only showed 2040 points / beats. At that point I decided to have a little gamble - I called the 0870 pulsebeats redemption number and asked to redeem my points for the MP3 player that was 8200 points that we're all after, I made no mention of the supposed (wrong) balance of points I had on my statement, and they took my card number and happily processed the order, that was probably two weeks ago and this morning, bright and early with Parcelforce, my shiny new MP3 player has arrived.

I never askwed them if I had enough points, they never told me if I did or didn't, so I think there may be a breakdown of communication between MBNA and Pulsebeats due to the volume of business they've had off us, but I think they are slowly sorting it out.

Stay hopeful and just try speaking to the Pulsebeats 0870 number without speaking to MBNA about what's shown on your statement first..... It might just work!

Good luck all and happy listening.

    Same here...ish.

    Statement says 2000.
I phoned the Sony number, asked for my points balance... 8200.
I then placed my order for the MP3 player, the nice lady said it would be with me within 28 days (I've still got 7 days to go)

I have complete faith that it's coming... and just as Ed says, I also think it's just MBNA not having a clue what's going on!
  • Achy, you got to speak to the Nice Lady as well!!

Interestingly, the Sony UK catalogue (selecting white font colour does not seem a good idea now) does not show the MP3 player for 8200 points, but the Sony Irish catalogue does.

Copy and paste from the Irish Catalogue below.

My MP3 player came this morning ... so it only took 21 days instead of 28 :T
  • Well the (very) Nice Lady at Sony Pulse Points was right!
I received my MP3 Player today, less than a week after ordering it.
It seems to be a good MP3 player, or at least that's what the teenage son said. It charges up of the USB socket on the computer and also has a good display, which is not evident from the pictures. Guess I should have checked the spec first!
It was supposed to be a Birthday present for him, but he spotted the package first, and was watching for me to open it.
    Sneaky things teenagers.
    Happy.
    Tony
  • Mines finally arrived!

Not a bad freebie but i wouldn't have paid what it was retailing for in the last argos catalogue. The max volume is a bit weak for me as is the preset equalizers.

Just did as Ed... recommended & the lady didn't query points total or reference code for the MP3 - just said it will arrive within 21 days??!!

Cross my fingers etc & thanks everyone for pointers.

  • Hi there
I too applied for my sonycard using martins link as instructed.
Account opened early december 06 - sonycard would not allow me to redeem points until got my first statement - this didn't come through until end december, then it only had 2000 points on it.
Wrote letter to mbna with print off of web site offering 8200 points and threatened advertising standards authority complaint.
They took 30 days to respond and awarded me the 8200 points, by which time they had removed the MP3 player from the pulsebeats catalogue. You now need 9500 points to get the smallest MP3 player.
As I only had 8250 I had to settle fo an inferior freebie - a CD walkman.
As they 'reserve the right to replace etc etc' I think they are on to us and this is a way of wriggling out of the original offer.
Wouldn't expect anything else from MBNA!
  • my only fear is that when i get short of the amount of points for a tv they will pull the plug on the whole offer! What rules are there about this? how much notice do they have to give you that they are pulse beats? i remember how many ciggarete tokens i had stashed in the cupboard lol!
