Re: Unlocking mobiles (untested)

I have unlocked both my phone (was One 2 One) and my hubbys (Vodaphone)
I have put my one 2 one sim card in his phone (Nokia 3210) and it works fine however
I have put his sim card (Vodaphone) into my phone (Nokia 3310) and it is asking for a security code?
What is this and how can I get past it?

For the security code try 12345. Some phones (usually Nokias) have this as a default and the security code is simply something that comes up when you try putting a new Sim into a phone where it hasn't been inserted before. It can usually be turned off via. the security or locks menu.0

if it has been changed at some time it is very easy to read the security code on these old DCT3 phones with a serial fbus/mbus data cable, the leads cost about £2 on Ebay these days and the software required can be downloaded for freeEx forum ambassador

I downloaded the code generator, tried it a couple of times with no joy. I then signed up to the chat forum at https://www.unlockme.co.uk, one of the forums is the request of a unlocking code, I have unlocked several phones using this site, the people who run it are very fast in getting your code back to you, I think the longest I waited was 5mins.
They will also tell you which phones can be unlocked using a code or if they need to be unlocked using a cable.stay lucky!

Another tip.
If you buy a PAYG phone on Virgin mobile and have put £30 of credit on it, call them up, they will give you the unlock code for free.0 -
Well, I trawled through every post on this thread and reckoned I was pretty clued up on what I needed to do. I have a sony ericcson t610 on a bt mobile contract which I need to convert to payg. From reading this site I realise that I need a cable to unlock this phone but as I'm not making a career out of this I decided to pay the money to have it unlocked rather than buy the equipment and take the risk that it didn't work.
There are two independent retailers in my town so I popped into the first and was told that the networks 'frowned upon' unlocking and they didn't want to get into their bad books. However, they said that I could get it done in the street market for about £15.
So off to Dodgy Dave at the market. He said he 'might' be able to do it but as the phone was only four months old it might have new software, so he would have to send it away and I could collect it in a week. For once I could hear the alarm bells ringing in my head and made my excuses and left.
Next, I thought about buying the cable from e-bay and doing the job myself. Then I remembered all those Haines Manuals on the bookshelf -- the screwdriver driven through the oil filter-- the cornflakes box gasket fiasco.
So off to shop two. I explained my problem and was told that some of the new phones will CONVERT TO A USELESS CHUNK OF JUNK AS SOON AS A CABLE IS CONNECTED. Now I'm scared. Cowed and subdued, I ask if the contract provider might take pity on me if I explain that I only want to swap the sim cards over to stop my daughter sending me to the workhouse.
Mr shopkeeper looks at me quizzically and says, "You didn't mention the phone was on a contract!"
Now I'm really depressed -- I know he's going to tell me that the chance of unlocking a contract phone is less than Martin Bashir getting a birthday card from Michael Jackson.
Then he says, " Most contract phones aren't locked."
Let me run that by you again in case you missed it:--
MOST CONTRACT PHONES ARE NOT LOCKED!
He popped a vodaphone card in and it worked pefectly.
I felt really foolish as I had assumed that the contract phone would be locked to the network for the length of the contract. He said that Orange or Virgin would not work but any other network would.
So, sorry for the extended post, but the message is -- CHECK THE PHONE ACTUALLY NEEDS TO BE UNLOCKED BEFORE YOU PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU!--
If you all knew this already then please accept my humble apologies but I'm hoping that there is at least one person out there as stupid as me.

He said that Orange or Virgin would not work but any other network would.
if it is not locked (as some contract phones arnt) then all sims will work in it
when the shop was talking about the new s/e phones - these have rsa protection to stop the older method of terminater dongle and div s/w from unlocking (although this can now be done like this but will also need reflashing)
the easiest way to unlock the new ones is to use a T28 cables and purchase a log (which is a 1 time use of a server) you can get log and cable for about £12-£15 after which you only need to buy extra logs if you want to unlock another s/e phone
you then download a small prog which will conect you to the server and follow instructions to unlock - very easy to do see here:
http://www.totalserver.net/
you can also unbrand your phone to get rid of branding like voda live
you will need to buy another log for this, but still the same cable0 -

Okay, but I tried a Virgin Sim and it didn't work -- but Vodaphone did.0 -
I've followed all the instructions, unzipped the file, got the seven codes, keyed in code seven first (as suggested) my phone displayed 'insert SIM card'
so I tried code one, same message and then code five, same message. According to the 'unlock me for free' website I should be getting 'phone restriction off' or an error message if I've done it wrong. Has anybody else come across this?0 -
sorry drahcir, you are right. I tried a virgin sim in the phone again and this time it worked. Guess I put it in wrong first time around.
Message remains to first time unlockers -- check the phone actually is locked first!0
