i see what u r saying, but deano quite clearly says that he ordered new sky account in morning at the same address as his wife, which was accepted, then later on in the day deanos wife then phoned up to cancel, so it seems sky where quite willing to accept accounts at the same address as how where they to know in the morning when the created the account in the morning for deano, that 6 hours or so later deanos wife would be ringing up to cancel her original account at the same addres, i know sky are good, but they are not quite that good, i am not saying the information your husband gave you is wrong, but obviously something went awry in this case, and if they have made this mistake once, then u can reasonably suppose they have done this before, Dave

That about sums it up, a friend of mine also did exactly the same so it does happen even tho you say it isnt supposed to

Phoned sky up today (using the cancellations number: 08442 414141 option 5,3,5). Said I was thinking about canceling sky so I could get FREESAT for the HD content. The operator paused and started asking me questions about why I wanted to cancel. She then turned round and said she would give me SKY+ HD for £49 + £30 installation. I then mentioned that it was still cheaper to go with FREESAT as there wasn't a monthly charge. Hey presto, she now offered me SKY Talk evenings and weekends with free line rental. At present we pay BT £12.50 per month line rental, so having it free means it covers the SKY+ HD sub and im £2.50 better off a month and I only paid £79 to have SKY+ HD with in affect no SKY+HD subs for the year. :j

Not only that, but I mentioned that as im at work during the week, taking time off would be hard at present, so she then offered me a Saturday installation at no extra charge, yipee!

By the way, rumour has it that sky will be dropping the SKY+ HD sub early next year (but don't quote me on that!)

Also, as the SKY+ box im replacing is mine to keep (sky don't take it away with them), I've sold it for £85. So in fact, I've got SKY+ HD for nothing for a whole year (then I could cancel if I wanted anyway), and i've still made £6 doing it this way, cheers sky

I have the bog standard Sky box at the moment on a basic mix that costs me 20 quid a month but want to upgrade to Sky+ (don't have an HD TV at the mo) so called Sky today and said I wanted to cancel my contract (been with them since 2001). because I needed to record a lot more stuff (son works nights and doesn't want to miss all his soaps, etc). I said although Sky+ would do what I wanted I didn't want to spend 150 quid to upgrade and I was looking at getting a Humax box as we didn't watch a lot of Sky channels anyway. The guy put me on hold for a while and came back with an offer of a Sky+ box for 49 quid plus 30 quid for installation. I um'd and ah'd a bit and asked if he could drop the 30 quid installation but he wouldn't move so I said I didn't want to pay 80 quid and to go ahead and initiate the cancellation my account which he did. I now have 30 days to back out and withdraw the cancellation as I don't really want to cancel - just wanted to try and get an upgrade for a low price. I'm wondering if they are likely to call me back in the next couple of weeks or so to offer me another deal or is that it? I could call them back before the 30 days is up and ask if a deal is still available but if they say no then I'll have to back down and say I don't want to cancel after all! Seems like I might not have hit them at the right time or maybe because I only have the basic package they won't offer me such a good deal to keep my account. Has anybody had a follow up call after cancelling? He said I'd get a letter confirming the disconnection date for my account so I'm wondering if there might be a "do you really want to leave - here's another offer" in that letter.

i would sit it out, if the worst came to the worst and they do indeed take away the service without giving you a better offer, within a month u should expect to get an offer through the post trying to entice you back, and if not get your wife to go to the man in the precinct and get the box for free when she signs up, or she could do it online, Dave
Take every day as it comes!!
  • Sky don't offer a follow up call when someone cancels.
You could always call them back & see if they have a better or same offer for the sky+.
The problem you have is that you will only be able to speak to CS as you have already started the cancellation process.
Why dont you let it cancel then get your son to call & ask for sky in their name!
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.

generally speaking within the first month of cancelling sky do send out a offer to try and tempt u back, i know loads of people who have cancelled and then within a month of losing the service got the offer they were wanting when they originally phoned up to cancel, Dave

OK, as i said in my previous post sky dont call customers to entice them in the cancellation period/within the first 30 days.
However i never commented on any dm(direct mailing) that sky may send the customer in the post after they have cancelled to entice them back. Alot of customers cancel as a point of principle, to which they reinstate quite quickly. They may not get an offer or cannot be without their viewing ie. if they are in a bad reception area for terestrial viewing.
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.

The last time I saw Sky+ boxes being offered free was part of their "Introduce a friend" scheme but I see that they are only offering M&S vouchers now. Where have you seen them offered free for new customers?

Hi i tried to sit it out with virgin last year to get a better deal but they just went through with the cancellation, I would try phoning again see what happens. I phoned about 6pm to get the deal they gave me, the guy had to put me on hold and ask his manager 3 times first time was £49+installation then went down to £30+installation finally he asked me what i wanted i said i could not afford to pay that kind of money then he said that i was basically wanting it for free i said yes then i got it.

I was only on the basic sky package ie
    phone weekend and evenings
    sky broadband connect
    sky tv 6 basic packages
