i think sky are getting wise to it, my dh phoned on sunday as we have just had a sky + box go wrong in the kids room, so i suggested that my husband try the old cancelling.
he was offered the sky hd for £49 + but he really wanted the £10 extra a month halved as well (this they would not budge on).
anyway he called back on monday as a friend of his just tried it and got offered the sky hd plus half price hd a month for 6 months.
dh called sky back and really had to try hard to get them to offer the half price hd for six months (which they did eventually) would have liked half price multiroom as well as we have one in the kids room and one in the kitchen but dh was sure they would not have gone that far.
at the mo we have all the packages except sports and 2 multirooms and pay £58 a month with the new hd we will be paying £63 a month but after christmas dh is going to cancel movies as we dont watch it that much anymore.

I was very open and honest with them and said that I wanted a good deal as I had been a loyal customer for over ten years and our bills are nearly a £100 a month !! the adviser I was speaking just said to me, 'so if you couldnt get a good deal on a new HD box, would you cancel sky ??' she sort of led me to what I needed to say which was very nice of her !
I would never cancel unless things got tougher on the money front my DH would go stir crazy and TBH sky probably know that about most customers. Just as a tip, I phoned quite late on a Sunday to get my deal, maybe that could be of help to someone ???.
my husband has been with them since day one, and has never had any special offers etc, he has always had to ring them and try hard to offer him anything, i would go mad without sky, dh would hate to miss lost and 24.

I am in the 30 day cancellation period at the moment having been offered a Sky+ box for 49 quid and 30 for installation but I turned it down hoping for a better offer. Not sure when id the best time to call them though - I called in the middle of the afternnon but if they are on a quota, surely early in the day is the best time and not late on Sunday? As an aside, I just signed up for a Primus Saver2 account for my phone Carrier Preselect Service this morning because yesterday I got a letter from Sky saying that the 1280 prefix will no longer drop me out of Sky Talk into BT. I found they have also blocked other prefix numbers such as 18185, 1899, etc. whereas Primus do not block those. Naturally, Sky haven't made this widely known - I only found out by Googling and reading a few newsgroups. They are just getting more greedy by the day!I think the problem with Sky is that they are getting wise to people saying that they are cancelling just to get a better deal, as someone else has mentioned on here, it is unlikely that if you have the full package or nearly the full package, you are not going to cancel and go to freesat as you wouldnt get anywhere near the channels (assuming you are not cancelling because of cost). I also think that Sky representatives have a target of cancellations to save and once they have done that for the day they dont really care if you cancel or not. When I got my HD (which is being fitted on Saturday), I got it for £49 + £10 Install, I was very open and honest with them and said that I wanted a good deal as I had been a loyal customer for over ten years and our bills are nearly a £100 a month !! the adviser I was speaking just said to me, 'so if you couldnt get a good deal on a new HD box, would you cancel sky ??' she sort of led me to what I needed to say which was very nice of her !
