  • started on £500, after 4 months they increased it to £1100, it is now 13 months later having paid on time, not minimum, paying interest, spending near the limit and have not heard anything since, i would have expected an increase after 12 months especially since i actually have a good credit score and have a limit on my mbna card of £3300

i think i agree with Paris (above) that they only generally increase it the once

  • started at 100, 4th statement went upto 300, i have now had the card for 12 months and no increase.... cap 1suck. anyways i have now got a barclaycard platinum limit 3200 and 0% for 15months.
  • O.k I had a limit of £200 i've spent just under the limit at Louis Vuitton every month and paid off the balance in full about a day or so after the statements arrive, my credit was poor when I was younger but I now have no outstanding debts apart from monthly car payments which I never have missed apart from the confusion due to car companies new systems, so what do you think my increase will be on my 4th statement???

i'll keep ya'll posted... we'll see if where you shop makes a difference ay!...

I have gone from £200 to £800. I only use the card for airline tickets for Germany and was not too fussed about a limit increase. This is the only credit card I have ever had and I always keep a tight rein on what I spend so I always pay in full. If it was not that some airlines and the rail companies do not like my bank card, I would not bother with it at all.

I started on £200 limit in 2005 and am still on £200.
At the time I had one unsatisfied CCJ (still unsatisfied but should drop off soon) and a few late payments.
After reading this thread I called up to request an increase. The operative put me through to a manager based in the UK who explained as I had had a late payment in Aug 08 and had gone over credit limit by £40 in Nov I could not have one.
I asked how come I was allowed to go over limit, and she replied some retailers allow you to spend up to a set amount without checking available funds so that is why. EG at Tesco Pay at Pump petrol is allows me to put in £60 max of fuel.
BUT if you guys have been good it is worth calling and asking to speak to a manager for an increase.
My credit rating has improved now as I have a Next account and also took out the Cashplus Mastercard with the creditbuilder loan that Martin recommended.
