Jessicamb - you've come so far. You've progressed to wk4 which is an amazing achievement in itself and I bet that wk5 won't be as bad as you think it will. Push yourself - you know you want too!0

Thanks!
I did go out. But only managed the warm up and 2 sets of runs, so I walked home. I will keep going. If it takes me a few weeks to do the week 1 comfortably then so be it.
I think that perhaps I was trying to run rather than jog or shuffle so will slow the pace down a bit. I also think that I was trying to go to fast as I didn't want people to see me and wanted to get away quickly. Need to get over myself on that one I think.
Anyway. Of into town to see what I have lost this week (I hope!)
Do you think you might benefit from making your own plan? You could stick with the 60 second intervals but add a longer recovery, or cut the runs down to a shorter time but have the same recovery. That way, you'll be doing the same number of intervals and will thus push yourself more.
Or alternatively, try building up in bits of a run; don't wait until you feel you can attempt all of run 3 (and then 4 etc) before you try it. Even if you do 2 full runs and 5 seconds of run 3, you're still improving, and next time you can try to beat that.
The danger with trying something you're not ready for and know you can't do is that you might get fed up and stop trying. Or you might start to hate it. The music isn't to everyone's taste, so if you spend a while listening to the same podcast you'll probably get sick of it!Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Try week 5! You can always repeat run 1 if it's too hard, but really it isn't too much different to week 4. Run 2 is more icky, but again you could always repeat it. Then run 3 is dead easy, and after you've done it you'll wonder what all the fuss is about!
I did day one today and you're right its not that bad at all - I could probably have done another 5 minute running cycle at the end.
My lung capacity has definitely improved doing this too - the breating it a lot easier now than it was at the start. The biggest thing I have noticed that helps is keeping my head up and looking straight ahead rather than down at the ground. An obvious way to increase your air intake I suppose.
This programme really is amazing
Right I better go in the shower before you throw me off the thread for smelling icky :rotfl:The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
Skyelight - what I'm doing is trying to work on being able to do a few of the 60 second intervals with whatever recovery I need (is three weeks ok?
) between them before I start using the podcasts. Just waiting for oh to get out of bed so we can go down the gym today - I'm actually feeling quite tetchy when I don't get to go.
Was sat in traffic trying to get home from the north side of the city the other night, about 3 miles from home and passed a jogger going much faster than the traffic and was sooo jealous cos I'd love to be able to do that - or even just walk briskly to local schools round here when I get booked there.
Still impressed with what I get for the council gym membership round here compared to when I lived up in Sunderland - getting classes and swims as well, not having the chew of parking (and cost) in the city centre and gym staff who understand how hideously self-concious I feel and chat and say hello but don't push it - last time I joined a gym I went for 3 months, then hit my "programme review time" and couldn't face them getting the tape measure out again - so I quit going. Considering how much I hated this city when I moved here in January... it's starting to grow on me now (although wish they'd stop breaking into my car!).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

Have fun - I see your green light s still on. You could have been and got back by now
Are you starting at week 1 again?
I don't log off so it takes my green light 10/15 mins to go off
I just did it, and it wasn't too bad! Yep started back at week 1 since I haven't ran for 6 months or soneed to get some shorts and a proper tshirt, I looked a bit of an oddball
Much better running in summer than winter! That's what made me stop before, it got too damn cold!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
I've done the week one runs twice now (I actually went at 8 this morning for a run...that was lovely). I've been running 3 times in all in the past week but I don't think I am ready to move on to week 2 yet.
I am doing all of the 8 runs but I do get worn out at the end of each minute and can't imagine doing 90 seconds yet. I think I will carry on with week one for another week if that's ok, I haven't run since I was at school and smoked for 25 years so my fitness has a long way to go!!

Walked 3 mins, ran 1 min, walked 4 mins, ran 1 min, walked until 13 mins... mental note - don't go the gym without eating properly as I didn't half give myself a headache and went running to the lucozade machine on the way out! I think I tense up too much when I run or walk briskly as my shin muscles absolutely scream and my shoulder really locks up and hurts as well (I had a car crash a few years ago and it led to tendonitis in it from it being the shoulder held back by the seatbelt diagonal and gives me aggro time to time).
Oh and this time I didn't hang onto the treadmill handlebars to pull myself forward like a wimp! Bought myself a armband for my iPod instead of ramming it into my knickers, some new tracky bottoms (courtesy of Asda's finest) and got sidetracked into buying a few new bits of clothes since the supermarkets seem to have discovered plus size clothing (hurray for not having to deal with Evans's lousy overpriced rubbish quality stuff).
Reckon by the end of next week I'll try the podcasts proper.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
