I think I tense up too much when I run or walk briskly as my shin muscles absolutely scream and my shoulder really locks up and hurts as well (I had a car crash a few years ago and it led to tendonitis in it from it being the shoulder held back by the seatbelt diagonal and gives me aggro time to time).
Oh and this time I didn't hang onto the treadmill handlebars to pull myself forward like a wimp! Bought myself a armband for my iPod instead of ramming it into my knickers, some new tracky bottoms (courtesy of Asda's finest) and got sidetracked into buying a few new bits of clothes since the supermarkets seem to have discovered plus size clothing (hurray for not having to deal with Evans's lousy overpriced rubbish quality stuff).
Reckon by the end of next week I'll try the podcasts proper.
Also, have you visited your doctor? They always say you should before embarking on a new exercise regime, and it's a really good idea if you have health problems.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I was thinking of PMing you the other day! You have no excuses now
juno! A friendly face, who are all these runners? :rotfl:
I'll try to keep it up but probably won't have set days like I'm supposed to because then I feel forced to go out on those days.... if that makes sense.Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

If you can, it would be worth going to a proper running shop for some trainers. They'll assess your running style and tell you which would suit you best. It will be expensive, but it's worth it if you don't get as much pain. You'll then enjoy it more, want to do it more, and get fitter (and won't have six months off with wimpy excuses like "it's too cold")

To be honest - I haven't even bothered registering with a doc since I moved to Nottingham! It's on my list of things to do and normally I'd get organized more but work's gone nuts and I simply haven't had the time... plus the way lots of GPs treat anyone overweight when they walk into the surgery makes me tend to avoid going to them unless I'm dying (or my fiance's sliced his finger end off doing the laundry again). No help, no advice just a crumpled diet sheet shoved at you and a "lose some weight" barked at you - it's a pet bugbear of mine when you consider all the resources thrown at smokers but overweight people are just demonized and that traps many into a vicious cycle where going to a leisure centre or anything similar becomes such a big hurdle because of how society reacts to big people going into such places - and they can't shift the weight. I've just come back from the local leisure centre where I go to the gym and there was a guy absolutely glaring at me coming out of the gym and there's another nice girl in there who was looking at me the other day and giggling to her boyfriend - thankfully I'm a strongwilled person enough to shrug most stuff off (and the gym staff are lovely), but I understand totally how lots of people aren't. Possibly helps that I've taught in so many local schools that I'm used to people looking trying to figure out if that's really Miss X (because teachers cease to exist outside school don't they) that I'm sort of used to it.
Going to need to go get proper trainers eventually - I've got really high arches so shoes to fit me is always a nightmare, but at the moment money's an issue (have only just thrown out my beloved trainers I bought when I was still at school circa 1994 and it was an emotional farewell).Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
They're people you inspired to start running by creating the thread!

Almost hitting the 1,000 posts, we'll need a new thread soon :rotfl:
Yea, I think last time I felt a bit forced into it on set days which wasn't much good. So I'll go when I feel like it this time roundJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

Went down the gym early this afternoon - was trying to push the recovery time between runs down from 4-5 minutes but couldn't get any sense of balance going (I walk on the sides of my feet anyway and have appalling balance), managed 1 1minute and then another 3 half-minute runs but I've pulled something in my leg or something - my knee and ankle are really aching now (mild shooting pains up them - kinda like growing pains). No idea what I've done but I'm flipping annoyed and do NOT need an excuse to give up now - STILL nowhere near week 1.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
