  • Managed to do week5 d2 today - two 8 minute runs. Second was harder than the first, but kept going anyway, and managed to do it. Day 3 on Wednesday - 20 mins run!! Both excited & scared, hope I can do it!

Good luck all - so nice out there for running at the moment, hopefully we'll have a great week!

Well, completed the 5k yesterday. Was very disappointed as my time was 31 mins. According to our last training sessions I should have been completing it in about 28 mins. I think it was a combination of nil warm up due to the confusion at the race, very cold day, still a bit weak from last week's illness and very bad organisation at the race. It really was laughable. They allowed everyone (walkers, children, wheelchair users, people with buggies, 5k runners and 10k runners) to go over the start line at once. It was mad - the runners were tripping over buggies and walkers - terrible! It was not too bad for us cos it was our first 5k race and we were not taking it too seriously. Had I been a 10k racer and had trained really hard etc etc, I would have complained.
It took about 3-4 mins to get past all that lot and I ran for about 18 mins before having to walk for 2. Set off again and could only manage 5 mins and 1 min walk then ran the rest. At least I ran over the finish line - my friend ran most of the way and walked the last 2 mins!!
Was peeved off to say the least.
When I originally started the programme, my aim was to train for the Race for Life at the end of May. The race we did yesterday was something that I got talked into by a friend so I'm just going to put it behind me and move on.
    Training tonight - 2 x 20mins. Looking forward to it. ;)

Wow Leo, I think just doing the 5k is an achievement- let alone in 31 mins!! It sounds mazing from where I'm sitting :-)
webitha, it sounds like you are going great guns - how was the 25 min run?
I did W3D2 this morning, and found it quite hard, I realise just how much of this is mental. I was feeling a bit negative before I went out and I'm sure it affected me. Will try to be very positive Friday - after all I will have done it twice already so I know I can get through to the end!

  • Hi fimg

I'm on W3D2 today just like you. I too have found it difficult but I am looking forward to my run tonight after work.

I want my waistline to start showing my effort now!

  • Well done to everybody! And as for those who have actually run 5k - I bow down to you!! Hopefully we'll all get there soon.

I finished week 5 today, with my 20 minute run. It was hard, I felt out of breath a lot, and I got a stitch but I did it! I think that's why they put this run in on week 5, just to make us prove to ourselves that we can do it!!

So week 6 begins on Saturday - can't wait to see what that brings. Have decided not to listen ahead of time, in case I balk at it.

On Sunday I ran a mile, last night I ran a mile, and threw in some sit ups and leg extensions in for good measure once I got home.

Now, should I go again this evening? The first run I stopped twice and walked for about 20 feet, the secong, only once, I walked up the subway hill.

I've also walked the dogs for 2 miles each morning ~ the old lady enjoys it, but I'm not sure how much longer she'll be able to manage it.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
