It does get better! Last September I didn't do running, and now I'm doing 2 5k races and a half marathon

I have been very lazy and didn't get out at all last week.

I am back into it tomorrow - it always seems such a chore to get out there, but I feel so good about myself afterwards ...

And (I never would have even thought this at the start of the year) once I get through this program I am going do a 5K Race for Life!!!

Well.....went out this morning to attempt W2D1 with friend. She stopped with knee pain during the first run and although I got to run number three I was distracted by her hobbling and the wind was in my face making it difficult to breathe so I went home :-( This afternoon when my partner came home we drove to another park and I had a second attempt and I DID IT, but only just! contemplating going back to W1 for a few more sessions...advice?

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if I join you? I joined up on the DFW Running thread but although all the people are very friendly and willing to help, I felt a bit out of my depth. Those guys over there are fantastic and I shall continue to read their posts for inspiration.
I have been following the Reebok Race for Life training programme with a few friends. We did the first 6 weeks Walk Run Walk training and have now progressed to the 6 week Run Easy 5 k training and are on week 3 of it I think. We train Mon, Wed & Friday and throw in an extra session on a Sunday morning when we can.
Last night we did 2 x 20mins with a 5 min recovery in the middle. Could not believe that I was able to complete it! :j If anyone had told me 8ish weeks ago that I would be able to do that (an not felt that I was going to actually die), I would have laughed them out of the room.
Such a good thing to have gotten in to - I'm loving it. :D
  • Hi Leothecat - sounds like you are doing a fantastic job with your training - well done!

Fimg - not sure what to advise really, but as you've already done one day of week 2, why not try another. I think that mentally, seeing progress is a great thing, and will keep you motivated. Face the fear and keep running! I think that the first two weeks were definitely the hardest - once I hit the slightly longer runs, the easier it got.

Good luck all - nice to see so many of us on here. And thanks to Juno for that inspiring post - it was great!

My advice is don't give up!

It's not surprising that you struggled in the afternoon, as going running twice in one day is a lot for anyone, and you're only a beginner.

So have another go at week 2, but don't count today so that you do another 3.

Your plan sounds quite a bit different to ours, but you can certainly join in!

Hi Leothecat it's great to hear stories like yours, very inspiring! 2 x 20 mins running is impressive.
juno and chocaholic - thanks for the advice. I did the W2D1 this morning (again) and feel absolutely fantastic now. It may have even felt slightly easier.....
