I went from treadmill running to outdoor running, think the different surface has given me shin/muscle pains...

with your shins tara747 make sure you rest them well before you run again, ie don't run until they are not hurting anymore. i tried to do the couch in 5k in about october and the very first time i went out i injured my shins because i'd not warmed up properly (not saying that's what you did though!).

a good warmup i picked up to help with shins and calves is to stand on the bottom step of your stairs on your toes, with the rest of your foot over the edge of the stairs and then put weight on the rest of your foot, so your heels move towards the floor and then rise up and then down. I hope this makes sense, it really helped me!

Is anyone else doing Race For Life this year? I've entered and am aiming to raise £100 :) It's 5k, so is the perfect length for everyone here!

am i the only one still running?! is anyone else out there running too? i did 30mins tonght and i was shattered at the end

I am ... again! I finally kicked myself out of bed early this morning and headed to the park. I think I missed an interval as my earphones were playing up (really must get some proper ones) but was very pleased with myself afterwards.

I have started week 2 again as I didn't properly finish it last time.

Thank goodness it is getting warmer :)

tara747 yep the different surface and a treadmill is flat even running on an incline where as road running you have different surfaces and dips etc to negotiate.

kiraroo, thanks for the advice! I will try it next time.

Today I just did 24 mins walking on the treadmill at 5.4km/h and 15% incline. I burned 300 cals so am pleased with that. At least I can keep my fitness levels up while not being able to run...

Found this thread today and have downloaded the podcast ( didnt realise it was FREE - even better)
This week is my new healthy start - all weekend I have been having nightmares about poor Jade Goody. So today I get my smear test done ( sorry if TMI ) and start doing some exercise.
Am a bit worried by trainers wont be up to it but i'll give it a go.
    How is everyone doing?

Go for it lindens!! I've been going to the Gym for the first time ever these last three weeks and I'm determined that I shouldn't give up. I mean health counts for everything doesn't it? And WE are the only ones that can sort out keeping fit and healthy - we need to be strong and determined and keep going. Sometimes I just want that chocolate or cake and sit in front of the TV and then I remind myself why I started this and that I will not give up this time.

    well i'm back!
The podcast was really good, very upbeat and made time go quickly.
Forgot my water though and thought i was going to be sick as i got so dry :(
And my trainers rubbed my heels and I have a blister - disaster
My calves completely seized up all the way round, on the off days i think i may go for a walk to get my legs used to being worked lol

I'm waiting to get new shoes. My left knee was killing me after week 2 so I could hardly walk up and down stairs, is a bit easier now but hope to get going again soon
