I bought "running socks" which were just a bit padded. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
well done on completing week 1 lindens,
on my first week by run 5/6 i thought i was gonna puke lol
well done on the shoes they will make a difference, same as the socks i gotsome running socks and the padding are different for the left and right feet, its to help support yor feet, and to hopefully stop the blisters, touch wood i have never had any and im on week 6, but the first 2 weeks i did 3 times and week 3 & 4 i did twice so a lot of running, i have only done week 5 once, but if i can run 20 mins without a break, then i say to week 6 bring it onIf we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

Well done Webitha! I'm about to start week 5 on Monday (did run 4 of week 4 today, as I was putting off the pain, but can't do that forever!!). Hope your run went well Lindens - it's definitely an achievement finishing a week, and it feels good to progress on to the next week!
Gravitytrolls - how is the bambino? Hope you managed to get a run in!0 -
Not as yet Choc, but baby slept last night, and so did I from 9pm to 5am, so today training begins in earnest ~ well, I may mean begrudgingly, but nonetheless,it begins.
Well done you motivated lot for your achievements, and thanks for encouraging me.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Glad you got some sleep Gravity - I remember those days of no sleep very well! Mine are both at school now (7 and 9) so I manage to get much more sleep nowadays! Hope you manage to get out today - it's lovely and sunny where I am and that makes running so much nicer.
I did day one of Week 5 today - 5 minute runs, up to 8 minutes on my next run aaargh! I managed to run when I was supposed to though, so that was encouraging. Still can't imagine running a full 5k, but when I think how far I've come (and running those first 60 seconds was SO Hard), maybe it's not impossible.
Have a good week everybody!0 -

You are sooo right!! We must keep remember ing how far we have all come.
I feel so fab that I have accompllished week 1 and am now starting week 2.
I wish my calves would stop cramping on me - on friday i even had pins and needles in my foot , it went completely numb! So more stretching for me, loosen laces and drink more water before i run. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
Hello! May I join this thread? I completed week one of the c25k last week and despite thinking I was going to have a heart attack/cough up a lung I'm ready to take on week 2 day 1 tomorrow.
I am determined to do the race for life this year in July as I have never done anything remotely sporty before and need the challenge0 -

Are you doing outdoor running, or do you have a cushy treadmill? And are you using the podcasts, or timing yourself in some other way?Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I'm on a mailing list for iamsuperchick.com, and every Monday is "Motivation Monday" where they send ouyt an inspiring email. Today's seems very appropriate, so i thought I'd post it here.iamsuperchick.com wrote:Motivation -can I run?- Monday
Driving to work I love observing London, and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of it. There is always something to look at. There is one thing in particular that always stands out, always motivates me and always puts me in a good mood.
My drive takes me both down the river and past Hyde Park. Having limited space in London this is to "runners", what pollen is to bees. I’m always guaranteed to pass a least 5 or 6 people out for jog and at least once a day I pass a female runner who looks like she is not really used to running. Usually this newcomer to the running thing will be wearing some hybrid of fitness/fashion wear and often sport an iPod, no doubt to make that 5k a little more endurable. Her goal, I am sure, is probably to shift a few extra pounds so those jeans she tries on shopping at the weekend slide straight on.
Running is not easy, not necessarily because it is physically hard work but because there are lots of other factors that cloud the mind when thinking about going for that first outdoor run. Frankly, running outside can be intimidating especially if you are not used to it.
"What do I wear for a start!?" How confusing! Always a good reason not to go.
"Will I be able to run?"
"How far can I run?"
"If I don’t get very far will I feel stupid if I stop?"
Truth is none of the above matters and everyone has to start somewhere, even the Nike clad runner speeding past on her half marathon training.
The girl who looks like the beginner is the one who inspires me the most. Challenging all her "I don’t/ can’t run" demons, getting out there, and having a go. It doesn’t matter if, to begin, she runs for 15 minutes or 50 minutes, if she runs solid or if she breaks it up and walks for a bit.
She is making a difference and each time she goes she will improve until she is over taking the next newby out there.
Passing these new runners gives me faith in the human spirit to have a go. Seeing people, no matter what shape or size, stepping out of their comfort zone and doing something for themselves. With that determination I know they are the ones who are going to achieve their goals and feel great in the process.
Every time I see a novice runner it cheers me up too, I know they made a really good, positive decision today: to break the pattern that is so easy to fall into; that sit back and accept my ‘out of condition/ don’t feel very good’, attitude. They deserve all the results they will achieve.
Make a difference this week. It takes no time at all, put your running shoes on, plan a short route and just go for it. If you are a regular runner, go out and aim to complete a personal best.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Hi juno, no I don't have treadmill - and if I did let's face it, it would be extremely dusty lol. I'm running outdoors (round local park) and using the podcasts as I tried timing myself but hated watching the seconds go round so slowly!. I'm 44 and haven't done any exercise for many (many) years and have smoked too..... However, I lost 4 stone last year and my new goal is to be fit and show my kids I can do this too...0
