  • Hello everyone. Well I've done it week 1 run 3 and now i don't have to do anything until Friday.:j
I did some stretches first,Thanks Juno. It wasn't too bad. I have bought a heart monitor and I am supposed to be training in zone 2 but my heart goes straight from zone 1 to zone 3 and then off the scale, so I slowed it down a bit this time.( I must be mega unfit.)
Respect to you Helen81 running when your baby is that young, how do you find the energy? I am still getting rid of my baby fat and the youngest is 13:eek: I must admit I had to read your post twice because at first I had an image of you running with the baby on your back!
Gopppers don't be disheartened..think how far you've come. If you have come from the same place as me even a three minute run is an acheivement. You may reach the goal at a different pace but you are still going to get the goal.
Peppop I love my sofa too. I deliberately havn't sat down on it yet.
Looking forward to hearing your stories.
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

I'm doing run number 3 tomorrow, then starting on week 2 on Saturday. I'm actually looking forward to my run tomorrow, I felt as i acomplished alot yesterday just by getting up early and getting the run out the way, so hoping to manage it again tomorrow.

  • Hi all, just popping in since I managed week 5 run 2 today - 8 mins run, 5 mins walk, 8 mins run. I did it in the gym since it's a horrible morning here in belfast, freezing, raining and windy, all of my least favourite weather conditions in one. Anyway on the treadmill did the 8 mins at 7.5km/h and the walking at 5.5 km/h. It wasn't too bad actually but I'm now anticipating the 20 min run at the weekend with a bit of trepidation :) hoping for good weather so I can run outdoors. Though Everybody Loves Raymond was a nice distraction on the treadmill :)

Helen keep it up - you know if you keep doing the right things eventually the scales will be on your side, but sometimes it just doesn't show immediately that's all.

idiophreak, working off a programme works for me is all I can say. I'm inclined to laziness and having something planned out in advance is very helpful - if it wasn't for the programme I wouldn't be half as far in. The other thing is that the interval training thing presumably works and is tried and tested so I'm keeping faith with it. And whilst yes the thought of the 20 min run is scary, I know that when I do it I will feel exhilerated (just like having passed an exam :)) but what works for one person won't work for another though!

Gopps, some of my weeks have taken about 12 days :) no shame in going at your own pace! And Juno you're just showing off :D it is great though to have advice from someone who is so far ahead of us, I can't even dream of doing what you've achieved.

Well done Teachergirl and Bramble :)

Belfastgirl, if you read back through the thread you'll realise this is where I started from. I first posted in October 2008 (page 7) which seems like forever ago  So hopefully I'm proof that if you stick with it you can achieve great things.

Thanks BelfastGirl23, Teachergirl for your words of encouragement. Well I went for my 2nd run for week 4 at the gym yesterday and somehow I managed it. I think i must have had an off day on Monday as I normally do 30mins on the cross trainer as well after my run and only managed 15 before I gave up. But I was ok yesterday... the sorbothane insoles seems to be keeping the shinsplints and ankle pains away, although my knees still feeling a little twinge but not enough to stop me from running.

Depending on how I feel on my last run I will decide if i want to do the week then... (putting off THAT 15min run as long as I can!!).

Keep up the good work guys!

Juno - just looked back at your first post and I wanted to thank you. You've shown me that with a bit of determination that it's possible.

I think I over did it on Monday night. I still struggled to get out my seat in work yesterday so decided to be sensible and take an extra days rest (didn't want to do anymore damage to my thigh muscles) and continue today. I'm gonna do what a lot of you do - if it takes longer than a week so what.
  • I can't believe that someone can go from where I am now to running a half marathon :) even though I guess that's how everyone who runs a half marathon does it.

Was interesting looking through your posts Juno actually, what I noticed were the bad days when you feel terrible and thought it wasn't working. But you're here as living proof that you can get through the hard times and achieve your goals. I feel sort of armed now for when it doesn't go right for me. So far because I've been spreading it out pretty well it has been ok but I know there will be a bad day at some point. Hope you're hearing this Gopps and Peppop I promise I haven't made it up :)

Good luck tomorrow Teachergirl and Bramble. Looking like my 20 mins will be on Sunday because the weather forecast for Saturday is completely grim for Belfast. Will keep you up to date :) but you can think of me as you're having a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast.

phew! pretty much read the entire thread since Juno joined (spent most of the morning reading!) and I have to say you have done really well!! I hope to be able to run for 30mins non-stop after this - and then be able to run faster after that...

I'm eating some chocolate cake now to congratulate myself for doing week 4 run 2... it's my treat!! :D

BG23, I will be interested to see how you get on on Saturday... good luck!

    Good luck all!

    Completed week1!!

although today think i missed the last rep because my delightful dog decided that going on a rampage through a building site was more fun than running down the road with me....

But! week 2 shall start either tomorrow or sunday.

Feels good to finish this week and have stuck to it.
