Sarah, it was only a couple of days ago when I had tears streaming down my face after reading your account of what happened when your Mum passed away. One thing that stood out for me was that Steve was so there for you.

I really hope you find a way through this, both of you. Whilst you may feel that you cannot carry on as a couple please, please remember the impact that this will have on your girls, you two are their world, you are both caring parents and trying to manage with 2 children on your own is really, really hard. Believe me, I've been there.

Good luck sweetie, I am simply stunned by this news. xx

  • Hi IA

I couldn't post and run. I just wanted to say how sorry that I am that this has happened and I am struck (as ever) by how well you are handling it, that isn't a comment on your emotional state but the fact you are carrying on and also helping Ste to get sorted too is testament to the great person that you are.

I don't think you should think of it as begging by identifying what you need and posting it on here, first it acts as a to do list and second if people have old stuff they don't need any more and want to let you have it then you are probably doing them a favour, even leaving that aside - you have given so much help and support to everyone on this website that it is only fair that you get help and support when you need it whatever form that takes. Sit down, make a list and pop it up here, you can cross it off as you manage to get all of the bits and bobs wherever that may be from, it will give you something to aim for, while you are at it you could always list all those forms that you will have to fill out and al the people you have to tell and anything else you have to do and cross them off as you go as well if you wanted to - think of it as the flylady style daily cleaning list but life cleaning rather than house cleaning.

Finally, getting debt free is important to all of us on here but it isn't the be all and end all, if you can only make minimal payments for a while then so be it.

All the best for you and your new future.

You said it much better than I did, thanks.
  • ooh, my darling friend. So sorry :(

Being practical - I would double check the WTC situation as all year entitledto has said I wouldn't qualify for any WTC and when I (can't remember why I did it) used the WTC website directly it turns out I'm entitle to £100 a month and I've been missing out :(

Mad as it sounds, I have a spare single bed (the kind of metal tubular teenager style one) on its side in my hallway. OH's son slept on it when he was a teenager when he stayed with OH and then I had it as a spare so although it's not new and is probably 10 years old, it's still got loads of wear. I know I'm miles away but if there is a van anyone can drive down with, you or whoever needs it can have it. With regards to freecycle, I know you had a problem, I would recommend re-joining with a new email address (or Ste if he needs the stuff and it's easier).

I'm here for you, you know that. xxxxx

*hugs* Sar, sorry to hear you news.
I don't get WTC as I'm under 25 and wouldn't be working 16 hours or more a week.

The under 25 bit is irrelevant because you have children, so you'd get it as a single parent but I thinkyou still need to be working the 16 hours. Then you'd get childcare too.
If you post up on the Benefits board, there's a couple of Tax Credit advisers who should be able to help.

yea sorry you're right about the 25 bit. I do know this stuff but my head isn't working properly and it's hard to get into CAB mode when it's your own family you're dealing with..

Sar - so sorry to hear this news as others have said we are all here whenever you need us. I find this calculator better its the HMRC's one and you can put all different scenarios in to see which works out best (I do this on a regular basis when I have a bad day at work and feel like quitting!) It only gives calculations from today until April (roughly 6 months) so you will have to work out the full year. Big hugs x x x
