Lidl & Netto Paying For Carrier Bags

Went to my local Lidl yesterday, They don't give you chance to sort out your shopping, They throw it on the conveyor belt.
And if you want a Carrier - 9p each x 6 = alot of money I think!
In my book if you shop somewhere then you are intitled to a carrier bag or even a box or something to put it all in.
had to hand - ball it in the car again!!
Why should you pay again?

All the major supermarkets factor in the cost of carriers into the price of your shopping.
The difference with Lidl and Netto is that they don't.
What you do at Lidl is turn your trolley so that the front faces the till and as the guy quickly zaps your barcodes you just dump your shopping into the trolley.
At both Lidl and Netto there is an area behind the tills where you can take your time to bag up your shopping properly. It saves on staff costs and if you need a bag you pay for it. What's wrong with that? The man without a signature.0 -
Lidl, Netto and B&M Bargains have always done this - there was a time when they didn't have carrier bags full stop! I understand your gripe, but i'd let it go...[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

In these shops there are always loads of boxes everywhere, as they don't take the items out of the box to display them. We pick up boxes on our way round the shop, and then put our shopping in them, or we take our own bags with us.0 -
We always have a couple of long life bags in the boot. (And a chiller bag for frozen goods). I do not see a problem.
If you shop in Harrods they carry the goods to the car for you, but it all costs money and the customer pays one way or the other.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Don't forget that Sainsburys are stopping the display of free carriers frim Oct. You have to specially ask for them. Next stop--no bags.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Cheers for the replies, Iv'e done the trolley trick, And box carrying, But I just think it's a 'cheap' trick of them to not give you bags.
Not many Harrod's supermarkets around.Thomson 757 Man0 -

So you don't think it's to keep the cost of the food down?0 -

but if they do it, I somehow doubt they'll be reducing the cost of their goods to parallel Lidl's :rolleyes:0 -

I would have thought that with all the knowledge now available about the length of time it takes a plastic carrier bag to degrade then the majority of people would want to be a bit kinder to the environment and reduce the use of plastic bags. More and more supermarkets are trying to reduce the amount of bags used. It will be a good job when they disappear altogether.
Bags for Life cost very little and will be replaced again and again so why not buy some of these and take them with you each time you shop or the "green" bags a lot of supermarkets now sell?0 -
Ill get me 'coat' then:oThomson 757 Man0
