18866 connection charge to 4p (merged)

Why would anyone want to deal with a company that so cynically deceives their customers like that?
Because they provide us with cheap calls. I have used 18866 for two years and more recently 1899 and 18185 and am very happy with the savings I have made on my telephone calls.0 -
I have just tried to register with 1899 after being with 18866 and receiving the e-mail today telling me that the connection charge has been raised to 4p.
I have received this message from 1899
"Unfortunately your 1899 internet registration has failed.
Due to lack of capacity it is currently not possible to register. Please wait at least 6 weeks before attempting to register again. Our apologies for the inconvenience."
Oh well, I'm stuck with 18866 for now.0 -

Try again - but use a mobile number this time. Then, when you get the acceptance e-mail, log into your account and add your landline number (and delete the mobile if you want).
Nearly always works.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Just received an email from them about reduced international charges. This little bombshell was slipped in at the bottom!
At this rate, they'll soon be as dear as BT at weekends (for calls up to one hour!)"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
Is that a naughty referral I see hidden in your link there? Off with your head!"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0

I agree that the most important part of the email is right at the bottom, even the tariff message doesn't mention the connection charge only "zero p per minute"!
I thought that the rise from 2p to 3p would have cost them some trade, apparently not. 1899 for land calls and 18185 for mobiles from now on - till the next hike. Keep watching all!0 -

The increase is clearly shown on the website, and is also featured in an email, in which attention is drawn to a footnote by use of an asterisk *
Even if you only read the email in the preview pane, as hinted, the scrollbar on the right still shows that the message is longer.
Re-read the T&C, which give details of how they will publish price changes, and which you agreed to,
... sure the increase is disappointing, but perhaps the cynicism lies elsewhere.

I believe it wont be that long before Call1899 follow them because they don't need to be competitive anymore (even if they are owned by the same company).
Now that it's 4p then obviously we'll change as well but I'm going to keep an eye on the number of calls we make in a month and see if its cheaper moving to an all inclusive like Tele2 for £7.99. OneTel are doing it for this price I noticed but only for new customers.0 -

Nearly always works.
Thanks for the tip!!!There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who think there are two kinds of people in this world... and those who don't.0
