Yet again though 18866 fail to inform customers of the increase,
As most people have pointed out, it is written on their website

[...which may be wrong, as they were still charging 3p per call yesterday evening]

Whats wrong with e-mailing customers? They did this on their first increase.Unless you checked bill or looked at site you wouldnt know it had gone up.Obviously they dont care a monkeys.
  • Another point here worth making is 1899 and 18866 are sister companies. So if we keep switching between them, surely each will just keep putting the rates up. The unfortunate thing about the precept of moneysaving is we just fuel the companies greed and growth. En masse we keep switching our suppliers to the cheapest rate, they then see an increase in custom, get greedy and increase the rate. Even better when you run two competing companies!! Just my thoughts!

TBH 18866 and 1899 are so insanely cheap that I am not surprised charges are going up, nor that their customer service is dodge. I can't imagine what their profit must be on a hour long daytime call, can't be much. Cross fingers they will find a level they can make a profit on and stick there, rather than potentially go out of business.

At the end of the day, if it works use it, if not you can always use your BT line or whatever as was.....
  • I made a call using 'Call18866' this morning (BT line) and was still charged 3p. Has anyone actually been charged 4p yet?

Ok...but I know from experinece Bt do charge for the afore mentioned.
If you get the engaged tone you will not be charged.

If you press 5 for Ringback, then you will be charged 15p (inc VAT).
  • Well I have now received the email notification about the increased connection charge ..... but it's at the bottom of their "International Sale" junk mail.

It's as if they want to hide it.
18866 is still cheap so why this practice?

    Received the same email myself.

I've saved money by using 18866 and have no complaints about their service but I do agree that every time they have announced an increase in their connection charge,
that information is buried at the bottom of an email promoting something positive.
