Its 4p connection but calling mobiles is 5p a min not 12p weekdays, and calling abroad is cheaper for me.Originally Posted by richardjames73

18866 are sneaky and underhand - they did the same thing with the last rise to 3p in September.
Apparently 18185 do cheap calls to mobiles as well as 0870 calls for the ones that cannot be avoided using saynoto0870. I'm going to check out 1899 are still a 3p connection. May be worth using them for a while until they raise their price too - think they are the same group as 18866.PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

Or you could use http://www.1899.co.uk for 01 & 02 numbers during the day and 18185 for mobile call and
Just Dial for evening calls. You get 2 hour free calls + no connection fee.
1899 charge 3p for mobile weekend calls + 3p connection.

Just had an email about this too, so I will no longer be using 18866.
Daytime landline calls are cheaper with 1899 at 3p per connection, and I use 18185 for all mobile and any absolutely necessary non-geog calls. Evening/weekend landline calls are free anyway on Onetel for another few months, after which I'll be looking around for a new call provider"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

If you press 5 for Ringback, then you will be charged 15p (inc VAT).
BT also charge you for dialling 14713 as well! ... so if you miss a call make sure you dial in the number manually to return it rather than hitting "3" if you've done 1471
Oh, and the increased connection fee to 4p on 18866 doesn't take effect until tomorrow (30th Nov)
Eeeeek, I got merged mid-post  :rotfl:"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

ffym wrote:No question - still good value compared to BT but the best rates now seem to be 1899 (still 3p connection) for land lines and 18185 for mobiles.
I have voted with my metaphorical feet and swapped out of 18866. I tried 1899 but despite their acceptance of my registration I received an email half an hour later saying they could not accept me.
So over to 18185. Who seem to have almost the same interface, but so far have accepted me as a customer and so far it works. I even managed to manually reprogramme my Orchid dialler - or at least I think I did.
I guess this will become just one big game. Mind you I have started selectively using Skpe for some calls.

Even if in the future, 18866 once again manage to become the cheapest call supplier, I would suggest a boycott of them for deception.
I'd guess that 80% of e-mails are viewed using a Microsoft reader in it's default layout. Even Microsoft's competitors copy this layout
The 18866 e-mail has been carefully made so that only visible section is a junk-mail offering a few pointless discounts on calls to Argentina, ext.
They have made invisible the embarrassing fact that they've increased their UK call prices by 33%, with only 2 days notice, by hiding it off the bottom of the page, in a 'PS' section. They rely on the irrelevance of the visible part of their e-mail to avoid people scrolling down, before hitting their delete button.
Why would anyone want to deal with a company that so cynically deceives their customers like that?
Earlier in the year, I only found out about a 50% increase after I got charged at a new rate. Did they hide that notification off the bottom of junk mail as well?
As I imagine most people will have naturally deleted this e-mail without reading the price increase section, perhaps Martin could shame 18866 and highlighting their deception in his next newsletter.
I assume 18866 read Martin's newsletter, it must have brought them a lot of business. Perhaps they just made a clerical mistake and 18866 are not the 'gang of cynical crooks' that their e-mail might possibly suggest to some people. I'm sure they'd be delighted to prove this by re-sending the e-mail to all their customers with the clear heading "Regret to inform you, that tomorrow we increase UK call prices by 33%"0
