Shopgirl Trying to Sort It out!

Shopgirl - I sympathise, it was the little "pointless" spends where I was wasting cash needlessly too. I got myself a "mortgage pig", and now each time I resist the temptation to spend cash I don't need to, be that washing the car by hand in place of taking it to the jetwash, resisting the usual Friday morning bacon sandwich, or not stopping at the petrol station on the way back from speedway for a choccy bar, "Pigasus" gets fed. Seeing the cash building up in there is as good an incentive as any. The other thing that has worked for me is to put the item back on the shelf and walk away - more often than not the urge to buy goes away after you've spent 10 minutes telling yourself that you didn't really need it and it would be a waste of money. I have weakened once or twice and gone back for the thing though, only to feel terribly guilty afterwards!

EH - thanks for the tip - it's a good one I'm going to try it, whenever the urge to shop takes me.
Another expensive weekend for me (perhaps I have chosen the wrong time to start this diary!). After, some bizarre happenings on the computer front, it turns out I needed to buy a new laptop...savings - what savings?!?!
Just a word of advice - I went to Curry's (am I allowed to name drop?!? Sorry if not...)to check out prices, and their website, their "digital" shop and their "ordinary" shop ALL had different prices and when asked, would price match (poor customer service too!). Make sure you check prices if you plan to buy anything from there (although probably not the most money saving place!).
On a happier note...have another £2 for the jar! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Oh well..every little helps!;)MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -
We all fall off the wagon every now and then but as long as you climb back on then you'll be saving interest and shortening the mortgage.
I look forward to reading your diary.0 -

:hello: Hi shopgirl, enjoying reading your posts, good luck.
small tip, when shopping, pick it up, admire it, then say 'do i really need this'
Not the right time of year for car boot sales, but sometimes there are indoor ones around.
Water - are you on a meter, these are one of the biggest money savers.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi Annie - Thanks for the tips.
I'm certainly going to be asking myself 'do I need it' in future. Sadly the computer was a must (well...how would I add my posts if I didn't have a computer?!?!!).
I am on a water meter and have just added one of those water hippos to my loo! I also have a stock of things to sell on ebay/amazon. It's easier for me to to that then car boot sales etc, as I have no car.
I'm determined the rest of the month will be frugal!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:MBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -
I fess up to having an addiction and a habit and having felt guilt.
I'm addicted to comparing prices before I pay for almost everything and I'm in the habit of not getting a trolley if a basket will do, not getting a basket if arms will do and writing a shopping list of what I need.
I was racked by guilt seeing in my mind's eye the face of my poor sad little mortgage pig needing feeding and being deprived of funds.
