Hi, thanks for all the replies.
Is it still possible to get coin bags from your bank and fill them up and return them? Or do they not do that anymore. I remember my dad used to do that years ago.0 -
Yeah any bank do them
I was counting up mine a few days ago.

Most banks except a maximum number of bags each day to deposit into your account.
The post office deal with a lot of banks nowadays see http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/jump1?catId=19400181&mediaId=19100208 for paying in details. Suboffices may not be happy taking loads of bags but you shouldn't have any problems depositing large amounts at a main branch office.
They will not change change normally unless there is absolutely no queue and you sweet talk someone who is already having a good day!!0 -
A lot of Sainsburys and Tescos have them. They are called Coinstar and take about 7% off the value. I think you can choose to either donate to charity or get a receipt for either money off instore or exchange for cash.0

You don't need to pay the money into your account, just ask for pound / two-pound coins or notes in exchange for your bags of coppers and 5p pieces."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
If you have kids, most banks allow you to pay unlimited amounts of change into their accounts - then you nick it back off them:rotfl::rotfl:Noli nothis permittere te terere

I use a jar and an old saving bank that my nan left me. My mum's been using pigs for years - she opens them every 31st December and then starts again on 1st Jan. This year she had over £800 in hers.LittleVoice wrote: »
[snip]...Also I would rather put the money in a savings account (even one with a low rate of interest because that is better than earning nothing in a tin)...[snip]
Everybody isn't able to easily get to the bank once a week. For reasons I won't go into here I haven't been inside mine for months.
If jar/tin/pig saving is what works for you then I say go for it!Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. - Confucius0 -

I have a building society account that is difficult to get to, and save money in that as it's such an out of the way place to get to, it's easier to leave the money there rather than trek there to take any out. I also have a Barclay account that is paid £25.00 by DD from my HSBC account every month. It's just like paying a bill regularly and it is useful for my holiday spending money every August .I checked it yesterday as I had forgotten about it over the last few months and have almost £180.00 in there0
